If you haven't done this yet, check your air filter.

I looked at mine recently and it was almost bone dry. I added some filter oil and it actually quieted the engine down. Probably getting some noise from the intake side.

Indeed, it's important to oil the air filter. A dry air filter will pass dust into the cylinder, and damage the intake valves. ;)

I checked my air filter when I installed a charging pigtail on the battery.

The filter was dry except for a thin smear of grease (not oil) in the center of the filter.

It seems this should have been checked by CSC during the $195 setup. :hmm:

Perhaps it's a missed item on their checklist. I recommend that an owner send an email to them, as a friendly reminder.

I don't think the oil filter in my Zongshen ZS200GY-2 (Sierra) was oiled. :shrug: The last new Japanese bike I bought was a 1979 Honda Hawk II. I don't remember if the manufacturer/dealer oiled the air filter. ;) One of the first things I do when I acquire a bike is inspect, clean, and oil the air filter. :)

Same here on the first oil change I pulled out the filters and not a drop of oil on them.

I use BelRay Air Filter Oil for the flat, foam air filters on both my Zongshen bikes. :)

All my China bikes came with a dry air filter from the factory. I use chainsaw bar oil. Thick and sticky, just what you want.

i use the castrol spray can stuff...
its green so yer can see if yer missed
any...

I use Belray air filter oil.
And the Zong Owners Manual funny enough makes no mention of oil as part of maint., just to take the element out and clean the dust out.
Wonder if the factory's tuning and such for EFI took into consideration the additional intake resistance oil in the filter can cause.
Is there a tutorial yet for filter removal? I need to get mine out but it's so damn cold out today...

JB just posted the link for the online tutorial. The CSC Owner's Manual, provided with the bike on DVD, contains the same information on pages 74-75. Both sources state you should oil the air filter.

The foam of the air filter is only a medium to hold the oil. It is the oil which traps the tiny dust particles, and prevents them from joining the fuel/air mixture, and entering the engine. If one doesn't oil the air filter, dust will damage the intake valves and the valve seats, causing valve recession.

The Delphi MT05 ECU and various EFI sensors are constantly working to obtain the perfect, stoichiometric air/fuel ratio of 14.7. The air filter of the RX3 is very large, and is capable of passing more than enough air to support fuel combustion. Therefore, unless you apply an excessive amount of oil, you won't reduce engine performance by oiling the air filter. :)

Spud, I fully understand the function of the oil i a foam filter.
The posted .pdf manual I read didn't look like it indicated adding oil. I wasn't stating that as if to say "this foam filter doesn't need oil".

So I looked at my air filter for the first time today. Filthy. But...unlike the others here, mine had been oiled and was still quite tacky even though covered in dust and dirt.
Cleaned and reoiled.
Two other things I noticed, and they were the first "substandard" things I have seen on my Roxer
One of the 5 screws holding the cover down was missing. You can tell it was never installed. (the one hardest to get to.)
And...the oring in my cover on that same lower corner was installed all twisted.
And...one of the four remaining screws was nearly stripped already by the factory.

I never said you didn't understand. I was just stating general principles of oil filter maintenance. We have a lot of people on these forums who are unfamiliar with some areas of motorcycle maintenance.

just didn't want you thinking I was proposing to anyone that they not oil their filter :tup:
