Lianmei Industrial Co. LM125DB motocross

Just bought a 2012 LM125DB from Abibaba in Toronto. It's made by Lianmei Industrial.

I bought this for my 12 year old Son to ride. Nice looking machine, but my first comment about this machine is the quality control is rather dubious, LM claims "ISO 9001:2008 standards" for QC, HAH !.

I'll be posting pics and mods/repairs to this bike as time goes on.

We just put it together today. Started no problem and ran OK, but we had to bump up the idle speed for it to idle OK.

Now the problems I have noticed / had in the first hour:

- tiny clip in the spark plug boot to hold it tight to the plug came out but it still works, I'll have to replace it with something better.

- fuel was leaking out the carb overflow and air filter after the first 5 mins of running. Might be some dirt will have to pull and check

- back wheel alignment is way off

- the upper rear shock mount is welded off center causing the suspension spring to rub, it's off by almost a 1/4 of an inch !

My son just rides for fun and really likes the ride and the power, if you want to do some serious riding, pass on this and get a brand name... I was thinking of getting a 250cc chinese bike for myself, but not sure I'll bother considering the amount of TLC these things need. I like fixing stuff but my time is just too limited to deal with more than one of these !.

At some point, we will strip down the bike and I'll cut off that shock mount and weld on a new one and add some gussets to the frame and swing arm.
Not surprised we had these issues considering the price. we paid the price listed on the abibaba website.

Welcome, I'm looking forward to the pics :). My GIO Beast was quite similar in construction... I don't think there was too much on it that was square or straight and the welds were abysmal!

Welcome! Did you adopt your screen name from The Incredibles?

We're all too familiar with the amount of love that these China bikes need. I'm the curious sort who actually likes working on them as much as riding. Perhaps more so.

Yes, cause you need to be partly crazy / evil genius combination to hack these chinese bikes into submission, uh, I mean proper working order

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you are good with mechanics so a Chinabike will suit you and your family's needs well. Your observations are the norm. With that said CB's can be a good value if you have brains and a sense of humor.

Did you buy directly from China? Any issues with titling?

Looks pretty good! I think I saw what you meant about the back shock mount, even in the pic it looks a little sideways... The best thing about these chinese machines is the engines, everything I've had with a chinese engine ran beautifully once you got it set up. I even have a snowblower with a chinese engine and it starts one pull all winter long

Still a total noob at this, but poking around the web I see this is based on a Honda CRF of some sort. I think the engine is made by Lifan, is there any way to confirm by looking at it ?, there a couple of labels I'll need to inspect closer still.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
There are a HUGE amount of parts available for these bikes, you can really go crazy with upgrades 8O

That looks just like the pit bike that Son of Weldangrind bought. You can read about it here: http://www.chinariders.net/modules.p...wtopic&t=12997

I love seeing them 'hatch' :P .

I think it's great how the Chinese re-inforce their welds with peanut butter before painting the frame black.

That's how they get the kids to lick the lead paint off.

Well my son has been riding it for a while and is ready for a bit more and we need to fix some issues with it, starting with the clutch.
Biggest difference has been the clutch. It worked like a switch and got to the point where it was easy to stall and we were not able to start it easily. It turned out the mechanism (sorry no pictures) just needed to be lubricated in the engine itself (remove the two clutch cover screws) It was bone dry and not moving and we lubed the cable. Well after that and a small adjustment, it made a HUGE difference, now he never stalls on take off and it is super easy to start. It has a nice progressive feel now and real easy to control.
