India is the new China!!! isnt it? With the amazing numbers of small bikes being sold in developing countries and the economy in those countries growing, small bikes with better brand names and slightly larger engines are the hottest new trend. A good example are the KTM Duke 200 and 390 from India now this new BMW. Hopefully they keep strict control on the quality and not let there good names be tarnished. I have been researching the Dukes and its not the greatest feedback out of India. So I turned my sights to the RX3 that they are importing here and China seems to be getting its shit together. Unfortunately time and patience is what we need to prove a quality product but im ready to buy NOW!!

One more thing...this new BMW looks mysteriously like an updated version of the Yamaha FZ16 that is a hot seller here in Colombia. Of course its only a 153cc bike |
That's a nice motorcycle. :) I see it has ABS as standard equipment. However, I didn't see any reference to fuel injection.
|
The following review at WebBikeWorld does state the bike has EFI.

I like that motorcycle. I hope they bring it to the United States. :)

India and China bikes have a lot in common. My Royal Enfield has many of the positive attributes associated with CBs. A few of the negatives also lol.
|
It's the same with the Russian Ural. BMWs have problems; this new motorcycle might have problems as well. ;)
However, a lot of people forget that Japanese bikes also have problems. My Honda XR650L is well noted for destroying the splines of the counter shaft. The Suzuki DR650 has a transmission that occasionally grenades. The Kawasaki KLR650 has 'doohicky' problems, et cetera. ;) |
I just can't get excited about a bike that BMW is going to charge outrageous amounts of money to service and to add "factory" farkles. It'll be more expensive out the door of the BMW dealership as compared to any bike of similar specs and BMW is well known for charging top dollar for dealer maintenance and accessories.
(Begin sarcastic joke) Besides, BMW hasn't made a good bike since the mid-1990's. (End sarcastic joke) Cheers, Dan K. |

For that very reason. |
I believe it is the 650cc 'G' models used a Chinese Loncin engine. I think it has served well and reliably.
BMW's have many issues. Mostly involving he final drive and electronics. Gold Wings with weak transmissions have surfaced as well. Every bike is a mechanical device with its issues. The key is to not pay more for more issues that may be more expensive to rectify ;-) |
You can't beat the economy of owning a Chinese motorcycle. ;) Nothing costs less to purchase, operate, maintain, or repair, than a Chinabike.
