>:( The person that sold you the bike is a POS !!! I am not a mechanic and not sure if this will work ??? Run alittle diesel fuel mixed with Rotella 15w-40 to clean the engine out a few times . Don't ride the bike , just to flush the engine out . Get the engine hot , drain , clean the filter , and do it again. This should flush the engine from the plastic that is in the engine .I hope this helps !!!
IF NOT GO TO THE PERSON THAT SOLD YOU BIKE AND KICK HIM IN THE SACK!!!

Most are more knowledgeable here than me, but I believe there is a centrifugal oil filter that is accessed by removing the right engine cover. Maybe this video will help:

Seriously. I was going to give that shop hell but with them being in Cali, there's not much I can do. Thanks for the video. I will do this tomorrow

Is that even fresh oil?

PO said he changed it a few days before I bought it so.... who knows. It doesn't look like it to me but the guy I bought it from has been very straight forward with me about everyting.

The person who sold me this bike is a nice guy. It's the shop that "did the work" that needs a nice kick in the sack lol. I'll open it up tomorrow and see what it looks like

The good news is that the centrifugal oil slinger will capture what the strainer missed. It's a good opportunity to clean the centrifugal unit out, since that's a job that people rarely do. It's probably a good plan to pull the valve cover off and see if there's any debris up there; I doubt there is.

It was nice of the PO to call and warn you.

BTW, once you've got it cleaned out, don't bother replacing the dipstick. Just use the sight glass.

95C1500 10-21-2016 11:53 PM

That's good to know. I was wondering if there was a stronger replacement out there.
Well I've got the bike torn apart (kind of) and I found the f*@$er. Still instant for the most part. I'll update with pics later

95C1500 10-21-2016 11:53 PM

*intact for the most part

Alright, so my garage is dimply lit, so I decided to try my chances at getting it through the door of the shop... it fit! by half an in lol!

https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...b6&oe=589B5F1F

So I took the cover off, and there it was.

I can't seem to get the centrifugal oil filter cover off. Videos show people just pulling them off, this one will not budge.

BlackBike 10-22-2016 01:27 AM

Haha, there she blows. Bet y a feel good finding that:tup:

95C1500 10-22-2016 02:00 AM

I fee great finding that much of it in one peice lol! With the centrifugal oil filter, do I just pop the cover off, wipe it out and put it back on or do I take that nut out and clean it deeper?

95C1500 10-22-2016 04:03 AM

Where would I get gaskets for this motor? Ebay my only option?

95C1500 10-22-2016 05:22 PM

Picked up some gaskets for this thing locally. But damn were they expensive.
Hope I can get it back together and the valves adjusted today

95C1500 10-23-2016 07:55 PM

only one of the gaskets was correct. I've been fighting with them to get off their asses and call whoever they said they'd call to find one since I got home yesterday. The guy swears he'll have one tomorrow.

In other news... parts!

So I put in a new spark plug (found out it already had an NGK plug but oh well), adjusted the valves (I'm not too confident with the job I did, so I may redo them tomorrow just to be sure) and pulled all of the plastics in preparation for a new cluster and some paint.

As for paint, what color do you think I should paint it?Midnight blue (or something similar) or Charcoal Grey (or something similar)? Also, chrome or black for the wheels and forks?

Wow. That's one of the reasons I don't want to buy a used bike!

95C1500 10-23-2016 09:01 PM

Yeah I'm regretting it. But I'll still come out ahead of a new one with all of these upgrades (price wise) when I put it back together

After reading this thread I headed to the garage, removed the dipstick/oil plug from my Hawk and hacksawed off the dipstick portion as a precaution.

As for color, I vote for the charcoal black, but they both look good.

Keep fighting the good fight. If nothing else you'll know your bike quite intricately by the time you get it set up and running how you want.

haha good! I never heard of something like this happening. I guess someone is always the first

That's the one I'm leaning towards too. Finding some dark grey spray paint at walmart (giftcard...why not right?) is proving to be difficult

I know it much better than I should after owning it for a week lol
