Interesting engine choice. I bet it sounds like a roto-tiller.

In the words of Mr. Spock.

'Fascinating'. :D

Not gonna though. My brain has gotten me into enough trouble this year.

the guy abandoned the project tho.... i was disapointed to hear that, he was so close! i know theres fully electric supermoto's that go for like 15k+

to have a fully electric moto for less than 1k...BOSS

450-WheelieBoyz 08-31-2012 10:33 AM

the guy basicly tells you how he did everything, the electrical plans seem quite complexe from my POV lol

FastDoc 08-31-2012 11:31 AM

I saw a guy on a Brammo yesterday.

I was surprised how 'loud' it was, all chain and sprocket noise. I think belt drive if possible is well suited for an electric bike.

The Grainger box in the background says it all!

FastDoc 08-31-2012 01:35 PM

What's Grainger? I hear them advertised on the radio here but I don't quite get it.

katoranger 08-31-2012 02:28 PM

They sell lots of controls, switches, etc for manufacturers and people who like to build things.

Weldangrind 09-01-2012 01:26 PM

Not to mention tools, fasteners, lubricants, etc. etc.

I think I would start with a cheap electric bicycle as a donor, then upgrade batteries, motor and controller as necessary. This guy was looking to create an electric scooter that wouldn't exceed 35mph, so he could ride it without registration. Where I live, you can't exceed 20mph on one, so it would be easy. The transition to full-on electric motocross would be much more difficult.

I read the entire thread, and I was intrigued by his thoughts of using a hub motor on the front for battery regeneration. I think that's brilliant!
