110cc air injection for emissions?
 

Hey all,
I searched for this, but couldn't come up w/ anything for the 110cc. Is this exhaust air injection typical now? It seems to be hit/miss for 110's. Some have it and some don't. Man what an ugly appendage to slap on there. It's in a bad spot on this little quad too! Thanks to this forum, I discovered that little bulge in the exhaust is a catalytic converter. :?

Not only that, look further up the pipe to the left. See the bulge in the pipe? Guess what that is.

The "things" you have to do for EPA approval.

(it sure wouldn't take a whole lot of effort (or cash) to rid yourself of that crapola)

I was thinking the same thing, it looks like the head will snap off when it goes over a small bump or two, but it could just be an optical illusion though.

It looks to me like that upper shock mount should be moved to the right about 1", so that the shock is centered in the upper control arm.

The air injection and catalytic converter shouldn't affect performance so I wouldn't remove them. I've seen the same setup on European bikes. My Hensim 250 street bike has the cats but not the air injection.

One way to quantify that would be to weld a small pipe thread bung in the head pipe, just before the cat. You could then attach a pressure guage (0-15psi) to the bung and run the engine through the rpm range, noting the pressures at specific points.

You could then repeat the process after removing the cat and compare the difference. Idle pressure should be around 1.5psi (or less), 2000 rpm should be about 3psi and 4000 rpm could be anywhere between 4psi and 8psi. If the pressure shoots up to an abnormal reading, there is excessive back-pressure in the system, especially if it continues to climb while holding a specific rpm.

So far, I haven't actually tried this process. Like Cliff Clavin, this is strictly theory. :D

Yeah, I wouldn't bother removing any of it unless I had issues. Good point about that top shock bolt and the way the shock appears off center in that control arm! 8O
