EGL A15/A16 230/250 mods

I’m looking at potentially purchasing an EGL A15 230cc or A16 250cc bike. Does anyone know which one is better in terms of mods? I’d like to be able to upgrade the carb, exhaust..etc and get a little more hp. I thought I read that the 230 was a clone of a Honda engine so parts for Honda would bolt up and that the 250 was its own monster.. no mods available at this time. Any help here is appreciated!

The EGL A16 250cc is a true 250cc engine and the EGL A15 230cc is a clone of the CFR230F engine. Many performance parts such as cams, forged pistons and heads from the CFR230F will swap right over and can possible get more hp than the 250. The 250 may not have as many. If you plan on keeping stock i would just go with the 250cc.

Thanks for the reply! I was looking to get a bike for myself (6,1” 230lbs) and my 16 year old son (5’11” 170lbs). I’ve been on street bikes my whole adult life. My son has never been on a bike before ever so I will be teaching him. I wanted this to be something we could get into and see if we like without breaking the bank. I had originally intended on the 230 for my son and the 250 for myself. I would like the ability to upgrade the exhaust, carb if needed - were at high altitude, and maybe the sprockets.

If we end up liking this hobby I would likely sell the bikes in a year or two and get something Japanese for us. Unless these turn out to be great bikes then there probably no issues keeping them. I’m more concerned about parts long term. So if I can order a Honda compatible exhaust or Honda whatever and it will bolt up the 230 might be able to produce more hp and performance long term. I am not in favor of one or the other at the moment I just wanted to spend my money wisely so we can grow with the bikes if need be.

It’s also worth mentioning we plan to ride trails or single track. No racing or jumping or anything crazy.

Both of these bikes in stock form will need no other mods except a little fine tuning of the carb. They already come with an upgraded PE28 carb and a good free flowing exhaust. I think you will be more than happy with them with what you intend to use them for.

Do you know of a reputable place I could order the 250cc EGL A16? Every place I find online has horrible reviews. People never get their order or their money back.

I found a local dealer that has two Apollo DB36 limited edition 250cc bikes in stock. The dealership is asking $2499 for them assembled. Do you know if 1) this bike is any good 2) if the asking price is fair. They sell unassembled for 1800ish online.

Thanks

Price is no good, most of the flunkies flogging Chinese bikes, with like two or three exceptions I'm aware of, have assembly services that are a waste of money because they merely put the bike together, and don't go over the myriad number of things that need to be done in assembly, like torquing and greasing necessary things for the bike to last. Also, that '250' is likely a 223-233cc bike, as Chinese manufacturers have advertized that displacement as 250 for over a decade.

The 250 is actually a 249cc engine. They started importing them about a year ago.

EGL A15 230 and A16 250 Horsepower

Many websites are referencing the horsepower for the A15 230 around 16HP and the A16 250 around 19HP. Anyone have a DYNO test specs? Also, where do you buy parts for the A16?

Mods A16

Has anyone put a nibbi pwk 32mm race carb on the A16? I am thinking of doing it and change the CDI to the blue 6 pin race edition I will insert a pic. I also want to change the gearing a bit 14-50. If anyone has any experience with mods on the A16 please let me know if I am okay doing these changes. I guess I cannot put the pic of the CDI in here sorry.

Where can you get parts for the egl bikes specifically for the 230 and 250 like even just fork seals and stuff I can't find any info on it and no dealers can tell me they have no clue at all.

franque 07-13-2021 07:41 PM

Get a pair of calipers and measure the seals, they're likely something standard. Then go to your local bearing supply store and give them the dimensions, they'll be able to help you.
