Ride Peru

I'm going to start this new thread and post photos of my travels throughout Peru, I've got rides planned into the Andes and the Amazon. As I've said before the Mavila has been 100% reliable, I've got a lot of confidence in this moto and am not afraid to ride it anywhere.
I've used up my three free services, I checked the dealers shop prices today, a full service including an oil change and valve adjustment is S/. 85 ($31.25), doubt if I'll be maintaining my own moto at these prices. I'll post photos from the road.

The Mavila has really loosened up and is running strong

Hey, oldgringo, glad to see some more reports!!

Did we discuss your bike already? I can't remember if we figured out the source of manufacture?

I think it's about time that you start a tour company or low-cost bike rental outlet. If and when I could afford it, I would love to tour countries south of Mexico via motorcycle--Chile, and Costa Rica have been up there on my list, but pretty much any country seems to jump up on my list, once I see photos, LOL. I have read that Valenzuela is boring, however. Keep the photos coming!!!

X2! I'm subscribed! :D

The Mavila is looking great, OG! The saddle looks very comfortable. Unlike many Chinese motorcycles, the front fender looks good! I also like the headlight shroud, and the muffler on your bike! :D

What tires do you have mounted? What fuel mileage are you getting at Peruvian altitudes? As always, thank you for posting the superb photographs! I eagerly await your further reports! :D

Spud :)

We are all looking forward to sharing this adventure with you! So glad to hear you have a bike you can rely on and enjoy!

oldgringo 06-01-2011 05:34 PM

culcune, my moto is a 193cc Locin, the same moto that jape has. Spud, I'm getting about 80 mpg here at sea level, haven't checked it in the Andes. I'm heading up to Huaraz next week (weather permitting) so will check the mileage at altitude. I've got the stock Yuanxing tires on the Mavila.
I just wanted to mention how much I enjoy this forum, it's a great friendly place. I can honestly say that the only reason I bought the Mavila is because of the immediate feedback I received from Doc, Spud & some of you other guys when I made my initial inquiry about Chinese motos. Thanks again for all the input.

There are a lot of FJ40's on the road down here

Weldangrind 07-01-2011 02:53 AM

My buddy from church has an early 80's NATO-spec 24 volt diesel FJ40. Terrific machine. :D

It appears your bike has a very strong luggage rack. :) I'm sure you will enjoy the travel trunk! I love the photo of your motorcycle in front of the bike shop; the shades of blue are beautiful. :)

On the road, north to Caraz and the Cordillera Blanca, seven hundred miles and a lot of rough roads, The Mavila is holding up well, zero mechanical problems. Over 15,000 feet again, tough breathing for the Mavila and me, there is a 16,074 foot pass up here going to give that a try someday. Freezing in the early morning but warms up in the afternoon. Here are some photos more to come.

MICRider 07-14-2011 11:46 PM

Wow! 8O I can't believe how beautiful it is there... Loving the pictures! :)

SpudRider 07-15-2011 01:27 AM

Your photos are magnificent, as always! Thank you for posting them, OG. :D

P.S. I'm happy to report my J.C. Whitney Travel Trunk is still performing well after many thousands of miles. :) The metal mounting plate for this trunk is very tough. The travel trunk also employs a metal locking mechanism. The hinges are a bit weak, but I have replaced them with clevis pins on one of my travel trunks. If you can get one shipped to Peru, I can definitely recommend the J.C. Whitney Travel Trunk. :D

Spud :)
