Coolster 125 ATV chain - newbie question

After being given a coolster 125 that wasn't running, I managed to get it going (old gummy gas crappy fuel line etc). I had a blast on it for all of the 20 feet it went until the chain broke. Is this a common thing to happen? Are there options for aftermarket better quality chains, or am i pretty much stuck with what I find? Last ....can anyone recommend a quality vendor?

I appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Find out it's a 420 or 428 1st http://www.kmcgroup.com.tw/toen/products2_1.htm , then records no. of links.
Once u had "type + # " on hand. U can buy it w/ familiar brands. ### Choose the one with highest tensile strength within ur budget###

That's good advice. I've had good luck with RK and DID chains.

The above advice is spot on, but even the cheapest chain you can find will be okay--just make sure you have chain lube, and periodically keep it lubed once you put it on. But the more expensive, brand name chains, tend to break less often, so it definitely will be in your best interest to upgrade to one of those.

A side note on chains--someone told me that more serious MX racers (not necessarily professionals either, but serious amateur hobbyists) will change their chains after each race rather than trying to maintain them because they are easy to take off and put on, and relatively cheap.

I've found that cheap chains stretch to the point where they can no longer be adjusted. It's for that reason that I replace a China chain before ever riding the bike or ATV.
