06 250gs up for grabs

So, my 250gs has been sitting in my garage for about 4 years. Its not running. It may need a new transmission and obviously a new battery at the least. I had always hoped to fix it, but it never happened. I now have another bike to ride (84 magna 700) and am moving, so need to pass this one on. I'm in the Minneapolis/St Paul area and will give this bike to anybody interested. If nobody wants it, I'm going to donate to Kars4Kids. So, if anybody wants it or knows somebody who does, please email me: enigorts@gmail.com

Email sent.

Weldangrind 12-18-2014 11:52 PM

It needs to go to Kato.

katoranger 12-19-2014 09:44 AM

Most likely I will bring it to my shop and make the parts available to others. Will be able to keep someone else going that way. Or I am going to diesel power it.

katoranger 12-19-2014 09:49 AM

Big Gulp will be in that area soon. Will bring a trailer.

Weldangrind 12-19-2014 10:44 AM

Does it have a clean title?

katoranger 12-19-2014 10:56 AM

I don't know. Minnesota is one of the difficult states. No title equals parts bike. I will be in his area right after Christmas. My Dad is retiring and has to return his work van to a city about 15 miles away. My sister also lives in that area so we will be seeing her. I have a whole van full of stuff to bring back. We can still fit a bike in there.

SpudRider 12-19-2014 02:38 PM

Are you definitely getting the bike, Allen?

katoranger 12-19-2014 04:42 PM

If we can work out the pick up. Haven't heard back from him today. He responded to me last night. It is pretty much on my route.

SpudRider 12-19-2014 04:44 PM

Weldangrind 12-20-2014 11:30 AM

This might be your chance to try the Vermont option and update the tutorial.

katoranger 12-20-2014 08:45 PM

I have not heard back from him again.

katoranger 12-21-2014 07:10 PM

We are setup for Monday the 29th. No need for Vermont. It has a title. Big Gulp is ready with fresh oil and I have the small trailer ready too.

SpudRider 12-22-2014 01:33 AM

That's great.

katoranger 12-22-2014 09:23 AM

Big Gulp has a mission to haul the remains of my grandfather's hardware store back with us. It has been gifted to me. Lots of bolts, screws, tractor parts, filters etc.

Terrific! One week until China Rider goodness ensues.

Wow! I'm looking forward to hearing more about that. I was in an amazing hardware store in northern Alberta a month ago, and it must have been 80 years old. I could have spent all day in there.

katoranger 12-22-2014 01:17 PM

This will be 60 years of collection.

SpudRider 12-22-2014 05:31 PM

I'm sure you will put those items to good use.

Please take many pics. I need the therapy.

katoranger 12-23-2014 07:20 AM

The store has been closed since 1998. I should have taken pics then. Dad may have some. I am getting what is left that has been in storage. My Uncle has been renting a building and he retired and no longer needs is so the stuff needs to go.

katoranger 12-31-2014 10:14 PM

We are back in Kansas. One Zong made the return trip.

Its on the trailer.

Weldangrind 12-31-2014 10:49 PM

If you squint, you can see part of it!

katoranger 12-31-2014 11:58 PM

We filled in around it. I think I have about a ton in the van.

SpudRider 01-01-2015 01:20 AM

Welcome to The Cult of The Zong, Allen.

katoranger 01-01-2015 10:26 AM

My Zong will live on in the hearts of others. At least that is the current plan. I still like the idea of a diesel engine.

katoranger 01-01-2015 03:35 PM

This is what I would like to build.

You would make history with the first diesel Zong. :)

katoranger 01-01-2015 04:18 PM

Got to keep it Chinese. No budget for this project yet. Maybe an engine will appear.

So would I, but not with an open centrifugal clutch like that. If I decided on no transmission, it would be a Comet TAV. If I wanted to shift, I'd use the bottom end of a small two stroke engine for the clutch and gears. That would also get me a stator for lights and battery charging.

katoranger 01-01-2015 04:54 PM

I think that I would use a Comet TAV. Not sure if the electric start models have a charging system.

Weldangrind 01-01-2015 10:51 PM

I bet they do. That would make the project a lot easier.

katoranger 01-02-2015 10:26 AM

Sometimes it is only a few amps. Enough to recharge the battery.

Weldangrind 01-02-2015 08:37 PM

An LED headlight and flashers, and you're set. That stuff has become very reasonably priced.

A few more pics. Meika checking out the load.

SpudRider 01-03-2015 05:07 PM

Allen, that Zong looks mint! With inexpensive parts from Taobao, I'm sure you could fix that motorcycle very inexpensively. ;)

katoranger 01-03-2015 06:27 PM

I could or I can ship it to Weld.

SpudRider 01-03-2015 06:37 PM

What are the problems with the motorcycle?

katoranger 01-03-2015 07:55 PM

Slipping clutch, not charging. Missing key. That is all I know. For me right now it is not really a practical item. Weld is interested.
