smc buzz 50 gearbox removal help

Hi guys just wondering if anyone of you has removed gearbox from engine on one of these quads as my daughters appears to have blown a seal/gasket as engine is pressurising gearbox and engine also sucking g/box oil , I,m currently away from home and just looking for any tips before I get home and strip it down cheers

50 cc engine

Hello.... you can buy a whole motor ( if it is a 50 cc ) VERY CHEAP... let me know.. as for the parts to buy & repair it.. $$$ for what it is worth.. get a new one .. and then learn & play with the old one for a winter project

Weldangrind 09-28-2014 12:39 PM

Please tell us more.

Are you saying that an excessive amount of crankcase pressure has popped a seal out or just made it leak? Inspect the breather hose that exits the top of the engine; it should have a smooth path towards the back of the engine, and then point at the ground. If it is pinched or plugged, it will allow pressure to build.

When you say it is sucking gearbox oil, does that mean blue smoke out of the muffler? More info about the symptoms you see would be helpful.

symtoms

G,day weld and guys , have had the buzz since new 10 years old now but still like new. So I know its history , youngest daughter was riding it when I was home and it started to blow puffs of blue smoke and down low in revs seemed to be fouling up plus the smell was nothing like the normal 2 stroke smell , got it home and chocked up rear axle and put some revs on was fouling up down low and almost dieing high up in the revs , was very fumey ,oil was spitting out the exhaust onto the floor plus noticed underneath a decent pool of oil from the breather so I am suspecting a crank seal but can't understand why it was dieing high up in the revs , it was like someone was shutting the fuel off ,unless the plug was fouling up with excess oil , what do you think , I,ve googled and can't seem to find anyone who has split one of these apart' cheers

Ref to Honda PA50 materials. The engine is based on it http://www.motorfans.com.cn/bbs/view...originator=yes

Weldangrind 09-30-2014 12:32 AM

Does the PA50 use a reed valve?

burge 09-30-2014 05:55 AM

Thanks for the reply guys ,not sure if the buzz has a reed valve weld , but I can't remember seeing one when I pulled the carb and removed the restricted a few years ago

Weldangrind 09-30-2014 10:48 AM

Does the gearbox use a dipstick, or do you simply pour a measured amount of oil in?

burge 10-01-2014 07:04 AM

Yes gearbox has a dipstick attached to the oil filler , I reckon I lost about 100 mil out of the breather when I ran it in the shed

Weldangrind 10-01-2014 10:36 AM

Then I'm with you on the crank seal. I only have experience splitting the cases on old Suzuki TS two-smokes, and in that case it's the right side seal that fails. The left side seal only keeps compression inside, because the stator side is dry.

All that said, I'm surprised that the engine even has gearbox oil. Most of the two-smoke scooter / moped engines I've seen have only mixed fuel, with no crankcase oil at all (like the later model Aprilia).

Have you found a parts diagram?

burge 10-01-2014 04:40 PM

No weld I don't seem to be able to find a decent diagram

Weldangrind 10-02-2014 02:16 AM

HB, can you point to a decent shop manual for the PA50?

burge 10-02-2014 08:40 AM

Cheers weld ,hopefully HB will have something ,cause I can find nothing ,
I have no hesitations pulling it apart ,but some prior advice is always good to point out those hidden bolts or studs

Weldangrind 10-02-2014 10:34 AM

You're welcome. I asked him here also: http://www.chinariders.net/showthrea...t=13773&page=3

Weldangrind 10-02-2014 10:53 AM

He replied within minutes! http://www.chinariders.net/showthrea...t=13773&page=3

burge 10-02-2014 05:34 PM

Cheers weld I'll take a look after work

burge 10-02-2014 06:02 PM

Sorry I don't understand which thread the ones I looked at where in chinese

Weldangrind 10-02-2014 10:17 PM

Try this: http://www.mopedarmy.com/wiki/Honda

burge 10-04-2014 08:24 AM

Thanks for the thread weld but unfortunately the 50cc manual they had was obviously a four stroke as they where talking about valve seats , so since I can't find anything it looks like unfortunately I,m going to have to wing it when I get home and see how I go ,with so many of these beaut little bikes around I was fairly confident of finding someone that had been through this process

Weldangrind 10-04-2014 10:38 AM

Perhaps you were clicking on the "Hobbit 2". This is all two-stroke: http://www.mopedarmy.com/wiki/Honda_PA_Engine

Weldangrind 10-04-2014 10:46 AM

This is the shop manual: http://projectmopedmanual.info/Manua...hop-manual.pdf

It's interesting that even though it's a two-stroke, it uses one conventional valve for decompression. :D

burge 10-05-2014 06:01 AM

Thanks weld but unfortunately the site won't let me open it , I didn't know the buzz 50 had a decompression valve

katoranger 10-05-2014 09:34 AM

I think I have one of those engines on the shelf.

I could download it and put it in Dropbox if you like. You could then download it from me. LMK.

burge 10-05-2014 04:35 PM

That would be much appreciated if you could

Weldangrind 10-07-2014 01:34 AM

What browser are you using? Can you try this link with a different browser? http://projectmopedmanual.info/Manua...hop-manual.pdf

It works perfectly for me every time.

burge 10-07-2014 08:04 AM

Sorry weld I simply use
Google I don't know how to change the server

Weldangrind 10-07-2014 10:26 AM

Do you have Internet Exporer on your computer? Perhaps that would work for you.

burge 10-16-2014 04:43 AM

No weld nor do I know how to run two systems at once

Weldangrind 10-16-2014 02:22 PM

If you send me a PM with your address, I could mail the manual to you on a CD.

burge 10-24-2014 07:00 AM

Thanks for your offer but I have now realised the gearbox is seperate to the engine crank case so am now wondering if it may be the self mixing oil pump system
