Looking into Alibaba Crate Engines.

I am looking into Loncin RE250 6 speed and Zongshen 172-FMM-5 6speed.

I am leaning towards the 172.

I've made contact wilt a seller and they appear to be selling single unit sales.

My shipping cost is more than the engine however compared to an Ebay cb/cg250 5 speed the final cost of the 172 is not that bad in comparison for me here in Australia.

Anyway the seller provided me with the 172 FMM engine diagrams so i'll share them here for reference.

I think the OHC cover dimensions will not fit a bit to tall and wide, which will hit the fuel tank and petcock...

Nothing a welder and a big hammer couldn't make fit. lol I would definitely take the 6 speed over the 5 speed.

ive already put enough dents in the tank...but I think i would be pushing seams.

the CG 125 rocker cover has an almost perfect wedge that clears the base of the gas tank.

I already shaved the CG head to clear the petcock...I don't think that will be a viable option on the 172FMM.

Its a great engine but I think its to much for an XL185 frame. Think id be better off just saving up and finding a DR350 if 6th gear was a must.

You should just go for the 400. Way better bike.

400s and 650s are more common on the used market...but im not big on liquid cooled.

and neither option has 6 speed.

the DR350 is somewhat of a forgotten unicorn.

Not to derail the topic of alibaba crate motors...

Just interesting to see sellers finally selling single units... at a premium over pallet prices ofcourse.

Not just the 172FMM either...RE250, 172 4 valves, P'twins its all there...its just the shipping that hurts.
