I'm about to post how to "clean out" the exhaust down there...Got it at my frineds shop right now he's going to mess with it because I am always at work. I'll post somepics of the guts we remove. :D

So...can the DR be jumped?

AZ200cc 05-11-2009 11:51 PM

Enough travel for singles, doubt it would do very well on doubles  It's a heavy bike but sturdy...I hate the thought of breaking the 50 dollar a piece turn signals 8O And mine is plenty fast...People are shocked it will do a lil over 70.

If it's anything like my 650, there should be a couple of plugs in the muffler. Just unscrew them and run the bike for a while, it'll blow out anything that's in the pipe.

Sorry Knot, I re read it and I worded it kinda strange. I meant I was going to SLightly modify it for better flow and a better sound. Just don't tell out local Park ranger  The DR200 is the negelcted bike, No mods made for it and so I was planning on letting people know what the guts look like so they can decide if they wanna tackle it.

OK, got it titled with a plate and have been riding it on various roads. Looking to get a smaller rear sprocket, such as a Jtr811.39 .This should give me a 2.60 ratio. Currently running a 2.65 on my china bike Have a 3.00 ratio now with the stock Suzuki setup. The 45R an 15F sprockets revs too high for the road.Your right it still does well over 70mph with this ratio, I just hate to hear that little motor working so hard. Yes you can jump it, I tryed, in 3rd,4th and 5th, which is good to know for the dead battery problem and no kick starter. The exhaust baffel screws have been factory tack welded over to prevent removal. I have drilled several small holes around the exhaust tip pipe as suggested in the forums to let it breath better and give it a growl. I might drill out the baffel screws and remove it to see if I pickup any performance depending on what you say and what your pics show. I looked for 8 months to get a deal like this. Bought it for $1800, 2570mi excelent cond, Bike was $5028.00 new with all the charges in 3/2007 according to the orgional bill of sale he gave me.

I thought I did well, I got my 01 with 1500 miles for 1200, Your deal kicks my deals azz. How did drilling it do???? I thought about that but a company will mod the muffler for You if You send it to them, And they charge a bunch...I figured if they can do it I can do it as well as others if they knew what was inside  After that they drill a two inch hole into the top of the airbox for better flow...As a test I am going to remove my cover for one ride and see what it gets me.

Drilling the holes around the outlet pipe on the Suzuki only made it slightly louder. Looking inside the muffler with a flash lite I can see a solid piece of metal that is preventing it to flow straight thru. A longer drill bit extension will allow me to punch thru this interior plate. The hole drilling exhaust mod on the Roketa worked excellent. The Roketa sounds throaty, kinda like a baby thumper. So far with its current gearing the Suzuki is no match for the Roketa. Ordered the 39 teeth rear sprocket yesterday for the Suzuki. It will give some tall gears but we dont have hills in Florida. The ratio will be 2.60 The Roketa is a 2.65 right now which puts them pretty close together. Plus as the rear knobby wears the tire diameter shrinks giving the bike a higher ratio.Let me know if you get any more power from the hole in the air box. Yea it really was a good deal. Cash always talks but even more given the economy. Do they make a rear rack to carry things on for the Suzuki?

AZ200cc 05-14-2009 02:05 PM

I have not found one single aftermarket part for the DR, I looked at things for the dr350 and they're close but I'm not sure. The dr250 might have some things You can play with. But it looks like were on our own with these bikes....Sound familier?? Wonder if a China rack could be modded.

Your roketa must rock, My DR would beat the snot out of my old Trailmaster.

If you haven't already looked here http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=229927

you should. 100 pages of DR info.
If you need any info on making the motor a little snappier, just ask, or look at the DR-Z125 section on thumpertalk. Pretty much the same motor.

OK the long awaited DR exhaust MOD :)

Step 1,
Carefully drill the four spot welds holdingthe outer cover on the muffler,
Take this item and place to the side tp revent any damage to it

This is what it should look like, in the above photo. :D

Step 2,

After removing the outer cover and placing it to the side, Hunker down and stare at the piece behind it in dissbelief 8O and ask Yourself

"WHY THE FU&% DID THEY DO THAT???!?!?!" 8O :?

Step 3, Think about getting out the grinder and opening th can up but instead think twice about it

Step 4, Grab the longest drill bit You can find and drill through as many baffles as You can and call it good :?

Step 5, Grab Your welder and put the cover back on so it looks like You never touched it

Step 6, Fire it up and listen to the sound of a freshly drilled muffler :D
It does sound good, I made it through two of them.
