Xmotos Baja X250 - wiring for starter?

Hi -

So a couple of months back I got a super cheap Xmotos Baja 250 which looks like it's in decent shape, however, the wiring is definitely messed up as it wouldn't start with the battery that came with it, and wouldn't turn over via the electric starter with a new battery either. That, along with the previous owners spliced up wiring harness, led me to buy a new wiring harness and start again.

So, I've recently bought and am test fitting the new harness, wired in a new stock run/kill/electric start combo switch, a new key/ignition, and I still get nothing. No hint that the starter is even trying. The key is turned on, the on/off switch is in the on position, battery has a good charge (12.85v) and when I hit the starter switch, nothing.

How might I go about troubleshooting this issue? I've thought about tearing out the starter/battery, but honestly, the idea of having the electric option is nice if the wife wants to give it a go.

Thanks in advance!

How many wires go to your starter ? If it's only one ,follow that wire to your starter solenoid .Check for battery power on the other big terminal to the solenoid ,if it has power try jumping the two big terminals together to see if the bike actually turns over .If it turns over ,check for power at the little terminal on the solenoid when you hit the starter button .
If your starter has two wires to it ,the tests are pretty much check for battery voltage at the starter big terminal ,if present jump the big terminal to the little terminal to see if it cranks ,if it does check the little terminal for power when you it the start switch .

Thanks! I'll give that a shot in the morning and will report back.

Working!

So, I found a wiring schematic for the Baja 250/Gio X31 from another group, and got it all working. The piece I didn't realize was the brake switch, which needs to be depressed when cranking the engine. As soon as I wired that up, it fired right up. :)

For reference, I'm posting the wiring diagram for future archival purposes as I found it invaluable in getting it all working, along with everyone's help. :)

Thanks again!
