Mt Lemmon Control Road Ride Report...

2 Attachment(s)
Okay, I tried to repeat the trip up the Mt Lemmon Control Road
on Blue a couple weeks ago.
Hoping to get some footage,
so I could put out a video I've been B.S.ing about for a while now.
I set out for Oracle from Tucson at around 7AM.... Ready...?
About 10mi into the trail/control road there's this sign that says...
"Narrow winding road next (however many) miles"
Pssh I'm on a motorcycle, No Problem,
I didn't really catch how far it said (sorry).

Just a little further on, A little ways past the creek (I guess it's a creek?)
I stopped at for water there's this sign that says
"Unfit for passenger vehicles next twenty-something miles"
Again, My faith in my "trusty steed" held strong...
I proceeded with no worries...

And then a bit further still there's another sign
"High Clearance 4X4 required next 9 miles"
Hmm, I wonder what they mean by "High Clearance"..?

Apparently at leas 10 inches ground clearance is what they meant.

And about 6 miles into trying to "waddle" My little bike through
the roughest trail I've ever ridden... About 54 miles total into the trip.
My throttle cable snapped inside the handle.
4 miles from the Mt Lemmon Fire District at the end of the trail...
I did what anyone would do, I took the casing off the broken cable,
Made a loop, and attempted to ride the rest of the way through the
"4X4 section" using my right thumb as throttle controller.

Well...
Drumroll Please.....

That didn't work!
Surprised you huh?
Well, actually it kinda worked, for a little bit
So then I wound up walking/pushing the bike again,
This time up a dusty... Rock Strewn...Winding, Mountain,
in 102 degree heat, for about a mile or so.
Where I reached a flat-ish/wide-ish spot and was able to park the bike
AND get cell signal (See I CAN learn, HA!) and called the wife to bring
our van and rescue me again.

Also, once I got home and reviewed the footage I got...
I found out that I apparently caught a bug right in the lens of my camera
And I now have Three stage Farmer Tan,
It almost looks like I'm going for Neapolitan (like the ice cream)

Anyway, I'm including a link to my YouTube video,
and a link to google maps route for the trip from Oracle.

Report Filed!

P.S.
Seems that every time I set off
it turns into an adventure nobody asked for?

Okay, I've learned to do Maintenance on my bikes when I buy them,
Don't assume the P.O. knew anything about,
or cared enough to do any themselves.

VIEW FROM WHERE I FINALLY REGAINED CELL SIGNAL

That was a fun read! I genuinely laughed out loud at the three stage farmer tan and Neapolitan comments. Throttle cables never pick a good time to break, do they?
