where could i find a new stator for the engine in this bike. Its a K172FMM. tying to figure out what company in china makes it so i can get replacement stator and CDI


bike only has 86 miles, but i cant understand why no spark. i tried the kickstart switch as well. bypassing it.

Kill switch in the on position? All electrical connections tight? NGK not Chinese spark plug?

yea, tried killswitch. using an NGK plug. everything is connected, except a single orange a white wire with a bullet connector. cant find where it goes.

How about your clutch switch my Hawk DLX has one? I’ll bet it’s going to be something simple…have patience and check everything out :)

I got spoofed on the Templar by the kill switch a few times early on. It allows turning it over (starter is powered), but no spark.

And you've got to hold the front brake lever while starting on the Templar. But I agree with you. 86 miles? That stator doesn't have much use.

thanks for the replies everyone. its for sure the stator. i dont have any AC current coming in from the Black/Red power wire coming off the stator. guess i just gotta find the right one and ill be good

I've had pretty good luck getting parts directly from an SSR dealer. There is a dealer locator on the SSR website.

ok, replaced the stator. still no spark. im still not getting anything out of the 2 wire connector going to the pickup. i do have some AC voltage out of the 3 lighting coil wires. BAD FLYWHEEL?? im stumped

CDI not triggering? It needs to be running to get AC voltage from the stator, right?

I went through the CDI testing, replacement in one of my Templar threads or the resource thread. I got a variable advance CDI unit and posted a video in the thread. They switched from DC to AC type (or vice versa) when they switched to the 6speed engine. I verified it before ordering the variable adv CDI A replacement CDI unit directly from PSM is maybe $25.

Even that seems unlikely on a low miles Templar. Maybe a short or cut wire buried somewhere in the harness or a bad connector? Bad kill switch? Wires at the coil look OK? Could be the coil itself too (also seems unlikely).

im testing AC voltage coming right out of the stator. nothing is connected to it.

But the engine is not running, right? How are you spinning the rotor around the stator? The stator/rotor only generates AC electricity when it is running, right?

Stator output is typically tested on a running engine.

Does the bike have a sidestand cutoff switch? If so, connect its two wires together directly, bypassing the switch.

Same question with front brake cutoff switch.

Are you sure the kill switch is functional? IE when you have it in the Run position, you should have continuity between both wires going to it.

You were sure it was the stator, but it wasn't. Always do the cheap, easy and simple fixes first. They are more often than not the problem.

I guess the stator can generate some AC voltage at starter motor rpm? I've never tried it. I've seen ~30-35 volts AC at 1500-2000 rpm (running) on a healthy stator.

DC type CDI units are powered by the 12V battery when you turn the ignition on. Presumably, the stator is the only source of AC power so it must make sufficient AC power at low rpm to operate the AC CDI unit. The stator also sends the trigger to the CDI to trigger the spark from the coil. I think the coil is charged via 12V DC from the battery.

I never thought about it, but the stator must be able to make at least some AC voltage under starter rotation only. Is this how you are testing the stator output?

Do you know if you have a DC or AC type of CDI unit?

there are no switches or anything to test im testing the wires coming directly out of the stator. theres no kill switches or anything. AC current is produced by a internal coil seperate from the lighting coil. This happens any time the flywheel is spinning. i get nothing out of 2 stators. i get maybe 5v AC on each phase of the charging coil, and even thats low. i think the only answer is a flywheel?
