making tao 150 go a bit faster
so we went and brought the wifes tao tao 150 utility atv home to do some work on it .....need some thoughts on making this atv go a bit faster
|
intake, exhaust, rejet, performance cdi and a high performance coil
|
better explanation :
when using her atv's throttle once you reach 1/2 throttle that is as fast as it will go even though you can push the lever to full throttle it will not go any faster than 1/2 throttle.....we would like to have the other half please...lol |
hmm not sure what that would be, but the list i posted is the stuff you can do with out changing gears or tearing into the motor to try and find some internal parts that would work to sup it up with
|
already planning on getting a k&n air filter for it tomorrow and going to try adjusting the needle as well one notch
|
Mike's right on all counts.
There's horsepower hiding in that muffler, and the air filter is too restrictive. I'd recommend a Uni instead of a K&N for the dirt. After changing the muffler and air filter, you'll need to increase main and pilot jets to compensate. All of that and a better CDI will get you the full throttle you seek. |
Well if it won't go any faster from 1/2 to full throttle then i don't think lots of mods will help that, now you say it's a 150 eh?, is that a GY6 type setup with the CVT?, i wonder if the clutching (primary/secondary) is not working properly and therefore not allowing you to go any faster, i'm not sure, but do these have a speed limiting govener on them?

martian to me lol |
Does it have gears or do you press the throttle and it goes like a scooter?

if i drop the clip in the throttle needle one notch will this not allow more fuel into the carb thus increasing power?

I guess the question is, does the engine stay at a consistant rpm between 1/2 to full throttle or does the rpm increase but the atv will not gain speed?. |

No gears means you likely have a GY6 scooter style engine. I don't know what carb they use, but if it a CV style then the throttle cable does not directly control engine speed.
The slide is vacuum operated so the engine engine opens the slide for as much air is needed. The throttle control a butterfly. This is how my honda elite works. So the mods of larger jets/exhaust/air filter will help the engine use the rest of the throttle range. Kat.....no that is not the same carb as the wifes....hers has the throttle cable going directly into the carb from the top and pulls up on the sleeve to increase speed.
