Coffee in San Jose

Not much of a ride report really. Met up with a few folks via FB and joined them for coffee yesterday. Small turn out, but represented China, Italy, England, and Spain.

I'm in love with all of those marks, but RE most notably.

If you're talking about the red & chrome bike, that's actually a BSA A65 Lightning 650, about 1968. He rides that a lot, it turns out, just like a bike should be. Still runs Amal concentrics, and I can testify that it starts cold on 1 kick. At least it did that day.

Thanks for the clarification.

What an excellent eclectic group of bikes! What fun!

What was Bay Area traffic like on Superbowl weekend? Must have been nuts ;-)

Doc, the coffee meeting was 0800, so no Whoopty bowl traffic noticed. After we parted ways I went straight home and we never ventured out the rest of the weekend.

FWIW, Bay Area traffic is pretty much always nuts. High percentage of yellow & red lines on traffic maps is common.

I worked the Bay for a 15 years +/- out of Sac. Commuted every day all over the place. I found these rules apply:

1-You're always bumper-to-bumper. You may be stopped or you may be doing 75 mph...but you're bumper to bumper.

2- If you're not over the Bay Bridge heading east by 2:45 pm....you're hosed all the way to Sac.

3- When I drove a big rig there, put on your blinker and go. They'll hate you, but they'll move.

Obviously, it's an Act of God to get me there now.

Good point about bumper to bumper traffic not limited to slow speed or stopped. You can travel at 75 on the 680 like a NASCAR pack.

I was a dedicated lane splitter on my trusty XR250L commuter/trailbike. I beat the snot out of that poor bike either splitting lanes at 25 or drilling 880 San Jose to Oakland at 75.

I was glad when I moved to Sonora. I felt like I dodged a bullet riding 12 years in the Bay Area and not getting creamed.
