set up gy-5 for street
 

What would be the easiest and least expensive way to set my gy-5 up for use primarily on the street? I considered whethere the rims and tires from a lf200-b would fit, but were told they wont. I get the heebeejeebies cornering on these duel sport type knobbies. I love the look of the motards.

PS: bike still at shop, but its raining here anyway.

Just put street tires on the stock wheels. I did and they work great. Check the parts thread and my gallery. Other that that, you could do the air filter mod and sprocket mod. These bikes make very good commuters even if you have short bits on the interstate. I have over 13k miles on mine mostly commuting.

Yes, back in 2003 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado. Got to meet Apolo Ohno, Shane Hammond, Tara Nott, the whole Japanese girls wrestling team, and many other great athletes. I've moved on to other things since my last competition in 2004. Playing music and softball now.

Easiest would be to put some street tires on and go. Also you might want to go to a 40-42T rear sprocket.

If you want the motard look you could have the stock hubs relaced to 17" rims.

A cupholder would be pretty easy to make something that hooked onto the crossbar of the handlebars, I have an image in my head already......Well two images the other is a girl in a tiny bikini.

I need to fabricate a GPS mount as well.

Yup, just put on some street tires and you're all set.

My old GPS has a problem with vibration. It turns itself off when mounted to the handlebars of any of my bikes. What I do now is mount the GPS to my tank bag/back pack and power it with the bike battery. Easy to change between bikes. Take the bag/pack with GPS into stores etc., so it won't get stolen.

The vibes didn't affect my GPS. I rides in a Neoprene case and the holder is may from a oil bottle an a turn signal switch housing from a kawasaki. The GPS just slides into its holster and runs from its own batteries.

I have seen cupholders mounted on swiveling mounts for harleys and goldwings, but I am too cheap to buy one so I will have to make my own too.

To stay on topic, you may want to get a small fairing to help deflect some wind too.
