New Tao 125d. What to do immediately?
 

I grabbed three 125D's for my kids for x-mas. I'll get them next week, but I am thinking of not putting them together. I think I'll make it a teaching moment for the kids and let them assemble them with me.

Anyhow, Is there a list of things that I should be aware of out of the box with these things? I want to educate myself with the basics of getting them running well without having to do a crap ton of research Christmas day when they want to be riding.

Basically looking for common ridability issues and solutions.

I would assemble before Christmas.... if they cant ride them Christmas day they are gonna be a pain. If parts are missing or assembly mess ups you will be worse off.


Walkin on sunshine Christmas morning will go Darkside of the Moon if they aren't tearing up the yard by noon. LOL this is how kids get hooked on drugs.



Teach them how to take care of them, clean them, check oil and crap like that... get them an erector set to play with screws. Your best bet is to watch some youtube videos of people assembling that model.

a few ideas
 

#1 Carbs on these things are one of the first upgrades. There easy to swap out and can really help with start up and overall performance. The original carbs aren't very good.

#2 I've always swapped out chains because the OEM chains weren't very good. Not a must, but if you have the time and money I also re-did the sprocket set up. That's more preference.

#3 Suspension is very stiff and can help your kids control if you upgrade. You can find some good priced gas shocks pretty easy for these.

Those are the first three things I've done. If I could only do one, I'd check to see if they run or if you have carb issues. No carb issues then I'd invest in that chain. Those were the biggest things for me.

As a #4 I'd suggest widening out the back end with wheel spacers. It's a little more cost, but you can find them all over. If I had young kids riding mine, especially if off road, I'd for sure think about #3 and #4 for safety reasons.
