Hawk locking up
So I’m stuck at work idk what’s wrong with my bike. When I start it I can hear something rattling inside. It started with my chain becoming really loose when I was leaving work. So I came back really slow and it kept locked no up on me in first even in neutral if I roll it a bit it’ll lock up. Almost like whatever’s rattling around is freezing something up for a bit. Any help is much appreciated.

I've had a gravel rock get thrown up in chain and sprocket or behind foot brake and lock things up. Look for simple things first. rj

It’s definitely in the engine, I’m guessing something to do with clutch. Not sure though, I’m gonna dig in tomorrow hopefully and it does sound like somethings broke or loose just rattling around.
|
Yeah it would lock up with the clutch pulled in. I would have to rock it a couple times and it would eventually start rolling.
|
Have you pulled the chain cover to see if the chain is binding or hitting the motor housing? As rjmorel stated , it could be a rock jammed in there.
|
Yes I pulled the chain cover off, there’s nothing in there jamming it. If I start the bike I can hear it rattling around and if I rev the engine it’ll rattle around more. It’s something broke off or came loose inside rattling around. I can put it in first and get rolling but it’ll lock up for a second like whatever’s in there is jamming it up. I only did this twice, I’m now scared to start it because I don’t want to make it worse.

Do you think you may have dropped something in there when you replace the head gasket? |
Is the clutch cable tension okay? Does it make the noise in neutral with the clutch pulled?
If the controls seem sound it's possible something may have broken in the clutch, possibly a spring or a disk. If you think that's the case, you'll need to drain the oil and pull the side cover, but try and rule out everything simple first. |
On that note, I'm gonna trim the end of the dipstick off, since I only use the sight glass anyway.

Are you missing a watch or socket? Friend was telling me a story about a missing socket prior to a jet engine test. They had to disassemble the engine prior to the test. Now all their tools have rf tags on them.

I’m absolutely sure I didn’t drop anything in the engine. So it just drained my oil and this tooth came out not sure what it goes too. So what y’all think it’s from? What side of the engine should I open up? Do you thinkit would be ok to drive like this? It seemed to want to run fine it’s just this tooth was locking something up.
|
Damn just pulled 3 more teeth out of oil drain hole.

You could ride it like that, but be prepared for potential catastrophe if that gear sheds more teeth. I would personally put the bike down and start taking it apart until you identify where those teeth came from. Luckily even the transmission gear sets are pretty cheap for these engines, so it shouldn't cost too much to fix. Just time.
Edit. If your bike is still under an engine warranty you might consider contacting the dealer you bought it from. |
I wouldn't drive it and risk doing farther damage. Hopefully there is no damage to the case from the gears jamming. As MD states the transmission gear set are cheap. I would tear it down and see what the damage is.
