You know I was just figuring out on my way home how much it costs me a week to get to work.
(double checked it on the calculator just now)

In my gus guzzling trailblazer it costs me $4.75> a day, thats less than I spend for breakfast or lunch in a day.

That figure is a bit high as I rounded up a lot but still not enough for me to fuss about but then I live and work right in the city so its a short commute.
(less than 70 miles total a week)

For the people that drive in a day the distance I drive in a week it would be very expensive.

Our trip upnorth to go riding was a bit more expensive but not as bad as we had thought and still not bad enough to stop us completely.

All that being said I have started thinking about riding the bike to work to save a little plus it gives me a reason to mod the rear rack to my liking  .

I know and no doubt the bike gets better gas mileage and I have been thinking about it but I'd have to make a few changes.

If I drove a longer distance I'd have already been riding I think but then I'd probably have bought a bigger used street bike that would suite me better for commuting on.

Around here it's getting dangerous to drive in a cage let alone out in the open on a bike.

Maybe I should look into one of those ultralights I bet they get good enough gas mileage.
No nope wait no can do I'm just to fat err...stocky yeah stocky not fat.
(of course I wouldnt have to shave my head to reduce wind resistance since it's almost gone anyway  )

One more real reason for me not riding the bike to work is the very real risk of me pulling over on a warm summer morning and calling off sick and just riding all day.
(that is a very real risk  )

Yes I have been thinking that same thing Hick the other day I took a trial off the main road and was haveing fun going to work . The good part its was a couble miles shorter then the road .. yes if I had to ride with lots of cars I would have to re-think it to but for me I have back roads that takes me to work..

My cost for driving my gas guzzler would be about $10/day and the bike is about $2.50/day so I can save a fair amount. I save about $150/mouth riding the bike.

These numbers figured on $3.89/gallon gas.

That is GREAT, I am at 75mpg and very pleased. My S-10 gets 27mpg but the little bike is so much fun.

katoranger 05-27-2008 08:29 PM

My jeep gets 15-16mpg. I commute about 45 miles roundtrip.

Gas savings plus saving all the wear and tear on my 13 year Jeep.

The Jeep tends to always have a trailer attached and that is its primary function.
