Icefields Parkway
I wrote up a ride report for the CSC blog on my 5-day trip up to the Icefields Parkway in the Canadian Rockies a week ago. Check it out!

Excellent report!
Ah, my old stomping grounds between Banff and Jasper; I really miss that area. Where did you cross back into the US? |
Love the Icefields Parkway! Sadly, I never have been able to run it on a bike (and I don't have any bikes anymore) but I have driven it a bunch of times in cars, never get tired of the views! My son and I were on it two years ago in my Chevy Tracker, fantastic trip!
Glad the RX3 did well for you on the trip, great bikes! |
I crossed back in Abbotford/Sumas and took HWY 9 south to my place
|
Ha! That's where I live. I often cross the border to pick up packages in Sumas. If there is a next time, let me know and we can meet for a coffee.
|
Guess you have to get a passport to go to Canada?
Nice pics |
I'm only 2 1/2 hours from the border and that's if I take HWY 9 all the way home. I'll do that...also, let me know if you want to do a ride down here!
|
Yeah, you have to have a Passport or NEXUS
|
Or enhanced drivers license for ground travel crossings, not good for air travel, rj

HWY 9 goes into Woodinville and then 202 into Redmond, but 202 keeps going and you can take it to North Bend which gets you to the foot the cascade mountain range and not much of a ride to get over into eastern Washington on I-90.
|
I might just use that route to go visit FastDoc in the Tri-Cities.

Nice trip report. I think the icefield has receded a bit since my visit in 2009 on my motorcycle trip to Alaska. It has receded a LOT since I saw it in 1976 on my 3000 mile bicycle trip.
BTW, that's the Athabasca Glacier, one of the eight arms of the Columbia Icefield. Water from Columbia Icefields flows to the Atlantic, Pacific, and Artic Oceans, making it the "apex" of the continent. |
Yeah, they had markers showing where the glacier was located at different times in the past century. It's receded a LOT in the past 100 years.

Good write-up and wonderful photo's!
The Icefields are in my backyard too. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Mz...w=w800-h602-no My wife and I have covered many miles two-up. (Our Super Tenere passed 50,000 kms earlier this year.) https://dualsportblog.wordpress.com/ |
