What's up from lewisville Texas New rider here
What's up guys, just recently found this forum and decided to join. I have a couple of newbie questions that I'm sure have been answered before. I'm taking the course next week and am buying an American Lifan LF200iii GS because it's within my price range at the moment and seems like a good starter bike, only thing is I have yet to see hardly any reviews for the bike. Anyone have experience with it? I Plan on using highway a decent amount but heard this thing redlined at like 75? I'm 20 and weigh about 145-150 I don't know if that matters or not. Anyways sorry for all the questions I just don't wanna invest in the wrong thing early on. Thanks in advance guys!![/list]

First of all, welcome to the site.
I dont have any experience with that bike but I cant remember hearing any negatives on it. Forum member SNAKE used to have one in Houston. Glad you are taking the course. Redline would be around 7500-8000 I would imagine for it being a single cylinder. |
Thanks man I appreciate it, after I take the two day basic course am I good to go? So should I be ok on the highway with it? Buddy of mine was concerned that I would have a hard time keeping up with traffic. Thanks for the feedback!

Have you already bought a bike? If you have not bought a bike, consider a used Kawasaki Ninja 250. Good solid bike with more horsepower.
|
I have not bought it yet actually, I'll go check out the ninja thanks alot man :)

The ninja 250 looks good for sure, only problem is no used ones are available where I am. Looking at getting an 09 from a dealership but it's about 2 grand more than I would pay for the lifan lol nice to have options though as I am new to bikes and don't know what exactly to look for to begin with.

Welcome. The lifan will have trouble above 65mph. They are not really freeway bikes. 75 is probably the max.
I second the used ninja. I have seen plenty in the sub 2K range. |
|
Not sure what deals they are offering on the lifan, but anything over $1300 is probably too much.
These would be good choices. Even found a reasonable 500r in there. http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/mcy/2273199836.html http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/mcy/2273040551.html http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/mcy/2272203993.html http://dallas.craigslist.org/mdf/mcy/2260425496.html |
JINX!!!

I think we got some of the same bikes. The ninja 250 is such a bargain.
We are recommending this bike due to the intended riding you mentioned and also it will be very reliable and low maintenance. The lifan WILL require attention. |
Welcome! :) I agree with the others; the 200cc, Lifan motorcycle is not powerful enough to ride safely on the freeway. ;) I also agree, both the Kawasakai Ninja 250R, and the Ninja 500R are much better suited for your intended riding. :)
Spud :) |
Welcome!
Also glad you took the course; that's a good decision. |
As a previous Ninja 250R Owner - I agree with the above - Much FASTER, and you'll have no problem on the freeway with it. Definately maintenance free - Almost. Very reliable. I would love to own a 2009 or newer Ninja 250R Becuase they have improved so much since 08. I hated to part with mine, but a divorce drove me to get rid of her.
Andrew  |
Dang man woke up to like 10 responses! I will for sure be checking out the ninja as it sounds like a great bike. The overwhelming amount of responses is awesome and I appreciate every one thanks guys! Yeah I had originally chosen a lifan because it's cheap and I could finance and pay it off with the dealership, but it seems wiser to hit up a bigger bike haha
