New 250cc retro bike

www.avavelocityworks.com/what-is-ava/

A couple of articles:

http://www.montereycountyweekly.com/...b6eeaa0b9.html
http://rideapart.com/2013/05/ava-vel...rks-250-swift/

Member 'Birdmove' on mychinamoto (does he use the same screen name here?) of Hawaii has been actively searching bikes to purchase. He found ava bikes somewhere or another. Another mychinamoto member, Zorge, found the articles about ava.

I guess Ava's main man is a designer first and foremost, like Scott Colisimo (sp?) of Cleveland Cycle Werks. He has designed a few scooters, and then felt that the US needed another line of retro bikes. The engine, according to one of the articles, is the familiar 223cc Loncin engine (usually designated as a '250'). My guess is the bikes are made by Skyteam since they are introducing the Honda Dream replica, and probably would be the holders of the licensing. Of course, even if they are "competing" with Ava, they still win, if they are the builders.

I like it. The specs say 249cc.

Sky team make a lot of strange bikes... If you look
though there models... it seem they are trying survive
by reproduceing a lot of the older popular models of years gone by...

I like the bike also. :) However, I don't like the $4,000 price tag. ;)

That cafe bike has a certain old CB look to it. I like it, but that rear fender has got to go.

Trailbikeryder 06-11-2013 11:19 AM

The lower part of the engige looks like 125cc skyteam uses for the ACE. The upper part is bigger though. Like if they just put a 249cc head on the 125 engine case?

Weldangrind 06-11-2013 11:26 AM

The bottom end is the typical 200cc counterbalanced engine, but I'm not sure what that top end is from.

That's a really nice looking bike, I am a bit of a sucker for that old school cafe racer look

I like this a lot and would like to see it first hand any new news?

You can get a 250cc Skyteam Ace in Europe - EUR 2,800 / GBP 2,000 / USD 3,000

Sorry about the picture size though, I just posted the link!

Those are sweet little bikes. I'd ditch the awful mudguards and the ridiculous tail light, and I'd install a larger headlight. The kickstand needs work as well.

It is a lovely starting point. The rearsets intrigue me.

JTHSPACE 05-20-2015 02:49 PM

Yep, but the mudguards are "period" as I seem to remember very similar on my Honda's in the early 70's, as is the tail light.

The rearsets look like they have used the passenger ped position? You can almost see where the pegs used to be, at the bottom of the "diamond" part of the frame. And a rear grab handle to pull it up onto the main stand, which isn't fitted.

Not bad though . . .

I noticed that. I agree with you; not bad.

What bike is this?

Weldangrind 05-21-2015 01:26 AM

That's a Honda SS50. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_SS50

The coolest one I've ever seen is now a 100cc v-twin:
