Rhino 250???

I've been nosing at the "new" Taotao Rhino 250. Funny thing is all the websites list it as the 200cc motor (163fm), including Taotao's website themselves.
Shouldn't it be the 230cc (167fm) motor in that Rhino to be listed as a 250? I know that China bikes/quads have a mystery reputation for absolute fact, including notoriously poor data listed on the websites, but this is one of the larger descrepencies I've seen regarding listing motor size.
Anyone have a new Rhino and is it really the 200 and not the 230 (250)?...or do the websites once again have really poor data??

The Taotao ATA250D is also listed on the site as 200cc but I'm skeptical. It has the same engine as the Rhino which is a 171FMM indicating 250cc class (71mm bore) where the 200 would be 163FML or 167FML which would be 200cc class. To be a 200cc with the 71mm bore it would have a very short stroke making it quite over square. One site I looked at says it has a 70mm bore and 65mm stroke which would make it an actual 250cc.

Good to know! I have never seen a 171fmm motor and didn't know that was available. I just thought it was of the 163 (200) and the 167 (229? 230?) motors.
This is looking more promising.....

Mudflap 09-02-2015 03:03 PM

The Zongshen 200 I own has a 167FML engine which has a 67mm bore and 56.3mm stroke making it 198cc, so they use that same bore on a 200cc and a 230cc engine. I would think a square to undersquare engine would be best for ATV use because of the low end power but a 200cc engine with a 71mm bore would have a 50mm stroke and be quite oversquare.

Wow, confusing. So many variations of the same pushrod motor. Seems the 163, 167 AND 169 are all 200cc's of one flavor or another (bore x stroke), and the 171 is the 230cc.
I'm sure that's all common knowledge here somewhere..... I usually come late to the party.

its 200cc, even they dealer told me that before I bought the 250e that is liquid cooled and is 250cc, but they are much more pricey. but have much smaller tires than the other quads with racks.

Mudflap 09-04-2015 08:07 AM

A good salesman will always try to talk a customer into a more expensive model. The FMM in the engine number indicates 250cc class where the 200 engines are designated FML. I put the depth rod of a caliper down through the spark plug hole and got a reading of about 65mm but the hole isn't straight up and down so the measurement could be a little off.

well I only paid 1100.00 each set up with tax and title. so he wasn't that good. How much did you pay for your 200cc,,LOL

Mudflap 09-06-2015 08:37 AM

$400.00. Wouldn't mind if it were 200cc. Plenty of power for me. I have 2 200cc bikes that are great. Liquid cooling is a big plus though.

That is still a awesome price dude..
I am not sure where you live but Michigan is hot with them. heck I know guys that fix them in the garage for cash, But they just make them stock. That's why I did so much research before I bought mine.. As a fact: The dealer was a new dealer and did not even know what a 250E was, he quoted me a price on paper for 999.99 for a 250E thinking it was the same as the 250D. He told me he WONT sell me another one ( he had quoted me TWO). in Michigan the dealer want 1975.00 msrp for the 250E, and 999.99 for the 250D.. On line the 250D is like 1400.00 in the box..
But these are all cool little machines. My kids are 8 and they grew up at 3 the started on 110cc Honda clone Taotao and they where tough, My son put a million hrs on his. he vibrated every light off it..LOL But It kept running.. so I bought the twins the new 125cc units. and I hope they are as tough..
I hope you enjoy yours as much as we do..
I just looked at your profile, are you talking about that motorcycle in your pics.. MAN that is cool.. I wish I had one of those... two would be crazy fun with my ol man..

You aren't kidding that if purchased new, the water cooled version is a significant jump in price. My local dealer has the Kandi water cooled unit with the winch and tow hitch that's a really nice setup....but I can't justify the extra chuh-CHING!

taotaonogo 11-10-2015 12:43 AM

taotao engine size

I just bought a new TaoTao Rhino 250 (or ATA250-D). 11/03/2015
I comes with a 167FMM engine and this is a 197cc motor.

The "250" is only a unit model identifier number and does NOT represent the engine size. It is advertised as a 200cc and like most manufacturers that is a round up number. The engine is a clone of a Honda engine, however, all makes of the 167 FMM engine should have interchangeable parts regardless of manufacturer- although some have electric start while other have electric/kick start.
