license test on the Hawk?
 

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on one of these Chinese machines and leaning more towards the Hawk. This is going to be my 1st street legal bike and I do not have my motorcycle license in the state of GA yet. My question is with the Hawks aggressive off road tires will the DMV give me trouble when I try to take the riding portion of the test on it? The don't look DOT approved. Anybody take the riding portion on a Hawk?

My hawk knobbies had a DOT stamp on them ;) I am not sure they really are but most people will believe it if it's stamped on the tire.

I took my licence exam on the Hawk. No issues whatsoever, then again I'm in North Dakota.

I took my license test on a dual sport years ago. The guy testing me asked how I got it up there. He looked around and then said "never mind I don't want to know".

I had no problem in KY with the Hawk on the test.

I am going next week to get mine with the tt250 I think is will be better chock over my shadow

Here in Utah the cc of the bike used during your motorcycle endorsement test determines the cc of the bike your license is good for...there are different ranges.

When I moved to Ill around '68 endorsements were just coming into play. My first and only motorcycle test was taken on a 250cc Greeves trials bike. With crudely added head light and tail. Horn was a pink squeeky for a kids tricycle! Examiner didn't care much for that but he passed me. Expansion chamber was stuffed full of course steel wool and the bike barely ran with it so choked up. Doubt if the extreme knobby tires were dot. In them days I got the bike titled. Things sure have changed!

back in '83 I drove my motorcycle to the DMV, drove it around the block for the examiner, got my endorsement and that was that.

Almost forgot to mention...... I had been driving motorcycles on the street for 3 years before even bothering to get an endorsement.

Been riding since I was 8, never had one my whole life. They always just issued a warning to me about getting one when they wrote me tickets.

Then....about 15 years ago, they started impounding your bike here if you didn't have one. I took Mrs. 2LZ Sporty down and did it. Good little bike for it.

That's what I was thinking, light and easy for tight cornering. I haven't ridden since I had a dirt bike at age 14. I figured the hawk is a perfect economical 1st bike to get back into riding. I drop it NO big deal. Plus I'm not worried about resell value, I'm not going to get rid of it. My brother has a farm and when I get a bigger bike I will "retire" the Hawk on the farm.
