Baja 250cc Dirt ZS167FMM 2004

I purchased a Baja ZS167FMM dirt bike a few weeks ago. No spark. I was told the stator was bad. I double checked voltages, and resistances, they all read okay, except for the timing sending unit. I still ordered a New Stator 6 pole found on Amazon from PCC Motor, $36.00 shipped. I installed the stator and pickup. Same problem. Then I noticed there was very weak magnetic field from the flywheel pickup magnet. I am thinking this has got to be the problem. I am an old motorcycle enthusiast and have rebuilt quite a few bikes in my time, but this is the first time I have encountered this problem.
Any thoughts are appreciated.

:hmm:

Since you just installed a new stator and pickup coil, perhaps you need a new flywheel.

Thanks, and I agree. Now the search is on again! I also just realized this thread belongs in the dirt section. Sorry.

I moved your original thread, and deleted the new thread, Viking.

Thanks Spud.

I had a flywheel that was a bit flaky, and I found quite a bit of rust on the ID. I sanded the rust off, rubbed in some WD-40 and it was good to go.

About 7 years ago, I gave away my Tektronix 20mhz Dual Oscilloscope. Now I'm wishin I had it right about now. It sure made tracing signals easy. I have researched the flywheel magnetic tab. Turns out not much of a magnetic field is needed on the 'tab' as the pickup contains a pretty strong magnet, in a CDI system. So that as the tab travels by, the sensor is able to produce about 0.5vac. Pretty difficult to read on a cheap multimeter. Just thinking out loud, I wonder how critical the spacing between the sensor and the 'magnet' is? Too close and the sensor crashes into the flywheel. Analogous to a computer hard drive. The new sensor has two self centering tabs that hold it in place...excuse my random ramblings. Anyway, I now have an excuse to buy a new pocket flat panel lcd scope. The're gettin pretty cheap, 60.00, and can be used in quite a few engine diagnostic tests.
BTW, I would make sure to use Threadloc on any of the stator, pickup screws/bolts.

Wow, coming from the 'old' magneto and points system to CDI, even though it's over 50 yrs old, can be slightly confusing. Between a 'DC' 200GY-2 and an 'AC' Baja X250, both ignition electrical troubles, I have had a crash course. Looking at the pricing on Taobao, I think I'll save myself any more grief by throwing some dollars their way, and just replace the wiring, CDI's, coils, flywheels, etc., completely.

Correction; The 200GY-2 is AC according to reliable sources.

This is the advertisement photo of my X250, sold by Pep Boys in the US, by Baja Motorsports. I only got a bill of sale and no title. I'm trying to figure out the taobao.com (Chinese) "model" name to buy parts. I appreciate any responses. I have tried several different ways, but no luck. the model is XB-31 as far as I can tell. The guy told me it was a 2004 but as you can see it's a 2007.
Thanks

You could try CG200, 200GY or GY200.
