Help finding chain for Flywing
 

First, Thanks for all the useful information and answers I've found searching on this site. :)

I have a 2005 Flywing 150CC bike (CSK 19794027). It does not have a chain, and I was told it's a "420" chain. While searching for it I noticed it can come in many different link options. Is there an exact size for this bike (where can I find that?)? Or do most people buy something like 130 links and cut it/make it work?

If anyone knows where to find a manual that would be much appreciated. I know the engine is basically a bored out Honda cg125, and the rest of bike is similar to an 80's 185cc?
Other parts are needed but I think I've found those (brake/clutch/shifter levers, kickstand, air filter).

I heard 15w40 oil for the engine. Does that sound right?

My guess is 428, not 420. Yes, I usually buy a longer chain and cut it to fit. A few careful seconds with an angle grinder and a flap disc does the trick. I search places like www.bikebandit.com or www.rockymountainatvmc.com and find sale prices on either DID or RK chains in whatever length. They often have sales on specific length chains that nobody is buying, and I cut them to suit what I'm riding. Easy and cheap.

I don't have a specific link for the CG125 motor, but it should be easy to find with Google. There is a ton of good CG info on Youtube.

Everything I have drinks 15W40, and I buy whichever brand is on sale at Walmart or wherever. I'd happily use Rotella, Delo or Delvac.

So, it sounds like 428 is the way to go (I wonder why the previous owner thought 420 or if gear set was changed)? And simply buy like 120 links and cut to length. So they include a master link to connect the two ends I guess.
I wouldn't mind going with a whole different set (520), but I want to keep costs as low as possible at this point. Still...the small sprocket on the engine doesn't look too good, might have to replace anyways.

Has anyone ever bought from those Taobao/China sites. Curious how that works.

Here's the bike. She's beat up, but overall decent, and the engine/trans seems good. Excited to ride.

I'm looking at RK 428 chains on Amazon. I see there's 428H (heavy duty) also. It says it's slightly stronger and links-pins slightly wider, but other wise similar. Any idea if these also work for a 150 Flywing?

KMC 428H (Taiwanese brand, qulaity are OK) 132L $13.68 + front sprocket: $6.95 + shipping $6.99

I usually buy 428H if there's a choice. Have you Googled the difference between 420 and 428? You might be able to measure your existing sprocket to make sure.

I'd certainly try a KMC 428H at that price.

My sprocket is stamped 420. Does your sprocket have any markings?

I looked at the sprockets, couldn't find any markings.
It got me wondering if the previous wonder had also changed the sprockets for 420 chain. The sprockets were 7mm wide. And from what I've found (Google) that's the width for a 428 chain. So I already bought a 428h. We'll see how it goes. :)

It was a pretty tight squeeze but if you push the wheel all the way forward it fits with some wrestling. I used pliers at a 90 degree angle and it seems to work now. No cutting required. Good luck!

I was searching for chain information and came across this thread. Quick question. Is a heavy duty chain the exact same dimensions as a standard chain? Shopping for chains I see them listed as standard and heavy duty. All things the same I figured why not go with the heavy duty. Is there any difference in dimensions? Thicker material causing greater width or anything like that?

It is the same from pin to pin, but the links are thicker and a bit wider. It is likely to fit exactly where a regular 428 has been. I've used several.
