What's It Worth?

2015 CSC RX3 with 15,500 miles on it.

Starts and runs fine, but with known engine problem....metallic rattle/tapping that needs repair.

Parts bike? Or needs someone who can do the engine repair....not me.

I have about $6,000 USD in it, and will not put anymore.

tusk hand guards
handlebar risers
rectangular mirrors
narrow Seat Concepts seat
lowering link
center stand
accessory/usb dash sockets
battery charger pigtail
tank bag mount ring
19" front wheel w/nearly new Shinko 705
Progressive rear shock
mesh seat cover
90 degree thermostat
iridium spark plug
plus all stock items that were removed

What do you guys think?

I'm not riding it any longer, and need the space in the garage.

Worth about $1500 to $2000, depending how much work or overhauling the engine needs. If it requires massive work and parts, probably be lucky to get $1000 for the bike. Better go for a Japanese bike in the future. Less problems and more fun. My main reason for having a motorcycle is for travel and fun.
Not figuring out what’s wrong with a non-performing bike.

So you paid no attention to the fact that he has two Japanese bikes and a British bike, just had to spew out an admonishment.

I had to double check that I was actually reading that on a forum FOR Chinese bikes, FFS.

Hi Jay.

Sadly, the DR has been sold, and the guy won't sell it back....:ohno:

I now have 2 bikes made Thailand, 1 Chinese bike and 1 Japanese. :)

JB, based on that list of equipment, particularly the Progressive unit on the rear, I would start out at $2000. A whole powertrain assembly can be had for just under $2600, S&H included, less if you wait until a major holiday when CSC usually has their 20 percent off parts sales, and that would put the next owner back to 0 miles. Essentially a new bike, but with all of the major upgrades, for the same price as a new stock 2017 RX3.

Sorry to hear that you are not riding it anymore. Enjoying the T120, I take it?

I was simply given him an answer for what his poorly operating RX3 was worth in my estimation. I am not really concerned about his garage full of other bikes.
I don’t really want to know about his other bikes. They do not change the value of his RX3!
So what is your reply for the value of his RX3? That was his original inquiry. :hmm:

jbfla 10-25-2017 10:42 PM

Thanks 1cylinder, and Working ZS for your estimations of value.

That is what I was asking for. My own estimate was lower.

I have been through all the options for repair. They all will cost me $$$ and time.

Something I am not willing to do.

I am hoping for someone who has the skills to do the repair, and then can have a nice bike at a relatively low price.

Working ZS, I am enjoying the T-120, but it is my FL bike, and the RX3 has lighter, more precise steering more suited to the mountains than the Bonneville.

I have nothing negative to say about riding the Zong, only a bit disappointed about my experience with the engine.

Nobody cares what you have in it except you. You'll be lucky to get $1000 for it. I doubt a 15,000 mile RX3 in perfect condition would bring over $2000. I can buy 15,000 mile KLRs and V-Stroms in perfect condition for $2500.

Accessories and upgrades don't add much value to motorcycles. Never have. Most of your investment is of no value to me--other than the 19-inch front wheel, brush guard, and square mirrors, everything else on your list would be removed in my garage, and used stuff is barely worth the cost of trying to sell it. I've collected shelves full of stuff over the years. Such stuff may have been of value to you, but finding a buyer with the same desires won't be easy. Never is.

New engine and labor costs almost as much as a new bike. Which would you buy? Not reasonable to expect buyer to pay near price of new bike and still provide labor for repair. Would you?

This has nothing to do with it being Chinese, just the way it is in the used motorcycle market wherever I've bought in the past. Always seems tons of sellers start with stupid prices, but in a month or two the prices drop fast.

Sqwert, thanks for your thoughts on the value of my RX3.

I agree with you completely.

I mentioned how much I had spent on the RX3 only as the reason that I am unwilling to put any more money in it.

My RX3 now has a new owner, someone who likes the bike, and has the skills to do the repairs when necessary.

Not enough. :hehe:

JB, glad you got it sold and to someone who knows what they are getting and what they will need to do. Hope we'll still 'see' you around here once in a while! Thanks for all the help in the past!

Joe
