TT250 Drive Chain
Hey guys,
So I'm having to tighten my drive chain like every 75km, is this chain just stretching a ton? I'm thinking of just getting a new chain but I don't know where to start. I'd like to get a high quality chain and not a cheap-o. Thanks for the help in advance. |

When I read posts like this it's usually because the guy is trying to keep the chain too tight. Make sure you're adjusting to spec and tightening the axle to spec.

Do you know what size of chain will work best for this bike? |
As ARH recommended, get one of these. I'm sold. The original chain was horrible.

I just bought one. Thanks for the Unibear tip, guys.

Bookmarked that link to get a chain for the XL185

I just bought one of the unibear chains you guys are recommending too. For $20.00 I'd rather place a new one on, based on all the good reviews. As are some of the mechanical things on this bike, replacing the chain will be a new one for me. Can anyone suggest proper chain replacement tools?

You will probably need a "Chain Breaker"
http://www.harborfreight.com/heavy-d...ker-66488.html and something to cut/grind the rivets down a bit before you use the "Chain Breaker"... of course that's only if you need to remove any links in the chain https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVUYc1B9wLI The video they change out a 520 O-Ring chain, the 428 chain on these China Bikes are a little easier to change out then a O-Ring 520 Chain ;) |
Purchased the Amazin chain that was recommended and after I broke my original chain, the new one is 2 links too short...

use a smaller rear sprocket

I wanna keep the original sprockets for more torque for trails. I bought 130 link chain. Should be here 9/8/16.

Rats! I bought a 128 link chain too, based on a recommendation here. Looks like I'll count links before I cut, but I have the same bike as PNW so I too will probably need one with 130 links. I'll report back. Maybe the 128 link chain fits on the TT bikes that came with the 15 tooth front sproctet. Ok, the new Unibear 128 has--you guessed it--128 links. The TT has 130 links, like PNW said. So, did you guys who fit a 128 on make it fit by adjusting the wheel forward? Or that in conjunction with smaller sprockets? Also, I'll mention that the owners manual says the original chain must be cut off when it needs to be replaced. The manual says that it has no master link. Mine has a master link. That will make it simpler to change, just "daisy chain" the new one in. I'm new at chains. Is there 2 links of adjustment with the wheel adjusters?
