Snow in the mountains
 

I rode my KLX locally and looked to the East and saw snow in the Blue Mountains down to about 2,000 feet, so no riding there for a while ;-(

I heard on the radio snow in the Cascade Mountains down to 3,000 feet so no riding in the Cascades for a while.

To the south, snow in the John Day Wilderness so same deal there.

Forget about going north...

I am blessed to live in the rain shadow of the Cascades so snow here is only infrequently a consideration, but things like this look like fun...

Are you tempted?

I don't know about Doc, but I am certainly not tempted. :lol: As Doc knows, the mountain peaks of Idaho can get cold even in summer. I don't want to endure the wind chill and the blowing, powdery snow associated with riding snowmobiles. I especially don't want to break down in the frigid temperatures on some remote mountain. :ohno:

Lol, you can go farther in an hour or two than you can walk back in a day... ;)

That's why you always ride with a buddy.

I agree, you can't go riding a snowmobile without a companion. ;) If there are two of you, pray that both machines don't break down. :wtf:

I just don't like winter. In fact, I hate winter. I don't like walking from my car to a heated building in winter. ;) My eyes water, and my nose runs. I don't want powdery snow whipping against my exposed flesh at 30 mph, et cetera.

I firmly believe winter is one of the signs of a cursed Earth. Adam and Eve were naked in the Garden of Eden. You won't survive for long if you are naked in subzero temperatures. ;)

I like sleds but I'm not too tempted. They sure are affordable, and I have gone many times with others and I LOVE it.

But....

We don't get any significant snow where I live. Last winter we got none at the elevation of my home. The Blue Mountains are about 80 miles to the Sno-Park, the Cascades are about 85 miles. The John Day wilderness is about 80.

So, I'd need a cabin to leave them in in the mountains (I actually have access to one at Tollgate, about 4,000 feet in th Blues), and/or an enclosed trailer, and then a place to keep the trailer when it's not winter. I could leave it at the airport...

Plus I'd need a 4X4 to get to and from the cabin (got that, but it's old), etc.....

Finally I need someone to go with, and Roger is nearly totally absent on this count since last March.

I agree with Spud, winter is a sign of a fallen Earth, and I HATE winter. BUT, sleds are a blast and if I could ride a sled during the winter I'd be happy to see snow in the mountains. There is a great community of sledders here, and they have excellent infrastructure with regards to trail upkeep and improvements and warming shelters etc. Lots of friendship, food, and alcohol to be had on weekend rides in the mountains here.
