Venom ghost 800 mile update

1 Attachment(s)
So far bike runs great. No issues, other than speed. But I knew these were slow bikes when I bought it. I have made a few changes. I made a sissy bar for the kids and to hold my bag when I ride back and forth to work. I didn't really like the seating position. The handlebars were too low, so I found some used handlebars on ebay. Feels much more comfortable now. Next projects will be focused on speed. I would like to be able to do 80. Not that I want to ride around all the time at that speed. I just want to do 80 so i can easily do 65. Any suggestions on what I need to do to accomplish my goal?

Venom says
"Welcome back the new re-designed 2022 Ghost Cruiser Chopper DF250RTB! This cruiser Harley look-alike features a 5 speed Honda®-Based 250cc 4-Stroke Engine! that allows you to reach up to 90 Mph as a top speed."
LOL

Only way this bike goes 90 mph out of the box is on a trailer. Fastest I've gotten it up is 65. That was going down hill and drafting. 61 is about all it has on a straight flat stretch.

Venom has proven itself to be a top-notch dealer, BUT they have ALWAYS fudged their top speed claims. The Boadiao/Boom 125cc Ninja-clone sports bike, the full size bike that uses the Vader 125cc engine, they used to claim something like 75 mph top speed :lmao:

With lots a money maybe?

The bike can easily maintain 65mph. One of the first things i did was replace the rear sprocket with a 36 tooth. That brought the RPM's way down and made running 60-70 mph more easily obtainable without the engine screaming.

Thunderduck32 06-06-2023 09:58 AM

Going to a 36 rear sprocket was the first thing I did based on all the info I got from this site. With that said 60 is about all its got on a flat stretch. This weekend I plan on adjusting the valves, see it that frees it up a little bit. While I'm there I want to swap out the jet, but I'm not sure what ones to buy. The carb say pz30 but all the jets I find on Amazon say they are for pwk30 carb. Some reviews say they will work some say they won't. Anyone got a link to jets that will fit a pz30?
Those jets will work. I also removed the cat on my exhaust which helps too. My top speed was 72mph GPS confirmed after all the mods.

My brother just got a Ghost and can't get the display to change from odometer to tripmeter. From what I've seen online, it appears to be a touchscreen and the gauge has "SET" in the lower center portion but it doesn't do anything when you touch/push in that area. Wondering if he has a bad gauge or if they took the feature away for some reason.

Any ideas? Thanks

Thunderduck32 06-06-2023 01:46 PM

I emailed venom about that same issue. They said they took away the feature for some reason. Males no sense

Thanks for the quick response! I'll stop trying to push my finger through the face plate.

Doesn't make sense like you said to take away a feature like that.

I poked at it for like a week before I finally emailed. I almost took the little plastic shield off to see if where it says "set" was a button, but cooler heads prevailed.

Mine work when it felt like it But was from the first batch to arrive.

So bought the recommended sprocket for my ghost. I have never removed a rear wheel on a motorcycle before. Or adjusted the chain. But I want to do the work myself to learn. Any advice? Any videos to watch? Does the exhaust have to come off to get the axel out?
Thanks for any help you can give me!!!!

A swingarm stand will come in handy. Harbor Freight has a good inexpensive stand. Once on the stand all you need to do is remove the axle bolt to remove the rear wheel. Pay attention to spacer length and what side they are located. take lots of pictures before doing anything so you will have pictures of how and where everything needs to go. Here's a video i did on mine when i had it. I should of did a more detailed video.

My brother went through his first tank of fuel and went 150 miles. At fill up, it took 2.3 gallons of fuel so the 4 gallon fuel tank spec obviously isn't right but the mpg is pretty good and he's happy with it though it would be great to be able to fit 4 gallons and get closer to 300 miles before refueling.
