Flat tire on the trail, what to do?
 

Just curious, you get a flat from these cheap inner tubes on these bikes while on the trail, do you bring all the tire changing gear with you to fix it or roll it back to the truck if you even came by truck?



I'm planning on riding highways to the off road trails and would not have a truck to haul it back with.



My old Honda XL200R i rode everywhere as a kid and luckily never had a flat to worry about.

The best advice i can give you is to be proactive , the tubes are a known weak link and getting a flat miles from home or truck is no fun. Pull off the tires while you have it in your garage or kitchen:lmao: Check for loose/broken spokes replace or upgrade the rubber liner that protects the tube from the spoke nipples and fit some quality tubes.

It does not mean you wont get a puncture but it is a safer bet than the original tubes.

I always carry tire spoons, patch kit with unopened rubber cement, bicycle tire pump, and a new inner tube for each wheel. Over the years I've had to use all of those things many times.

Where can one buy a new inner tube for hawk 250?

Everywhere. Any 4.00X18 tube for the rear. Any 2.75X21 front. All over Amazon...ARH:D

I recently just changed my tires/tubes, and was amazed the tubes held up at all. The front tube was very thin. I buy a lot from Rocky Mountain ATV, and they sell heavy duty tubes for a good price. As mentioned, be proactive and change the tubes out now. You should be able to buy tire changing tools, and tubes for around 40.00.

Me personally, I would feel much better knowing that I had spare tubes, small tool kit, air pump, and repair kits with me especially if the alternative would be possibly pushing a bike back for miles. A Back pack or small bag strapped to the bike should carry what you need.

I carry three tire spoons, patch kit and bicycle pump in my burrito tube. Also make sure you have a wrench to fit the axle bolt so you can remove the tire and rim.

I also carry a jack stand made from an aluminum crutch that will support the bike upright with the wheel off the ground.

Good point. :tup: I forgot most bikes don't have a center stand like I have. They also make a snap jack that looks like would work good.

As a minimum you better carry a pump. In most cases, the puncture is not big and the tyre does not deflate instantly, so if you inflate it to say 30psi it can give you an hour of riding. Or at least 30 minutes. Then you pump it again, and again, and again :D until you get home/truck/trailer etc.

I carry a tire repair kit with the picks & plugs.
I also carry a repair kit with the co2 canisters and adapter for repair and air.
And a small hand pump from my mountain bike.

I run rimlocks on front and back of my bike so any flats will keep the tire from separating. I carry a portable trail stand patches, a spare 21 tube(can be used on front and back wheel), spoons, and a pump.

I drove 40 miles on the bike to an offroad area when I was in between cars, and I had a pinch flat right at the end. since I wasn't carrying any trail stand, and the terrain was rough and slightly muddy, since I had a rimlock I was able to limp back to the front of the offroad area. I tried to save the tube, but it was wrecked. I had to wait 4 hours for my dad to make it there with a spare tube, then it took 20 minutes and I was riding back home, lol.
