Help with agb 36 apollo 250 dirtbike

Hi guys I'm new here. Just got my apollo 250cc dirt bike in. So far so good.
Bike is quick looks good but I will be doing mostly trail rides so I would like to get new sprockets and maybe a exhaust system.
Anyone know about after market parts I can get and where?
What parts are compatible with this bike?
Thank you

Welcome!

Please start by showing us pics of your new bike.

Sweet bike! If you give us a close-up shot of the engine, we can tell you which type you have.

Remove the rear wheel, remove the sprocket and measure it. You'll need to know the number of bolts holding the sprocket, the bolt circle and the hole size. From there, we can hopefully guide you. Measure the distance between the pins of the chain.

Tires, chains, fuel filters, clutch cables, etc are easily found at www.rockymountainatvmc.com or www.bikebandit.com

Ok I'll take a pic when I get home.
I have the Manuel for the bike and it says that it's a 530 58mm 37t 4 bolt
Ill also check those website out. I want more torque bc I do mostly trail rides.
How big of a rear sprocket should I go

humanbeing 01-03-2015 05:01 PM

Find it in http://www.jtsprockets.com/catalogue OR ask them http://www.jtsprockets.com/contact

Nydirtbike 01-03-2015 05:19 PM

ok contacted them hopefully they can help.

If you had a 50 on the rear wheel and a 12 on the countershaft, you could climb anything you point it at.

It's important to know what 58mm means. It is likely to be the center hole, but it still doesn't tell you the bolt circle. JT will need that info.

Nydirtbike 01-04-2015 10:49 PM

they still haven't got back to me.
yes 58mm is the center hole. Its a 37 tooth in rear and 14 in front.
Can i just drop the front down to a 12? Do i need to touch the rear?

Weldangrind 01-05-2015 01:27 AM

Yes, you can just drop it down to 12, but don't go any smaller. You might need to pull a link from the chain, but hopefully not.

Looks sweet. Same basic bike as my own Baja 250 (posted pix in New Member Intros). I like mine a lot. But even shorter gearing? Wow, you must really want to scale cliffs. Mine is already geared so short it tops out at about 40 mph, wound out in 5th. 2nd gear is still just about walking speed...

Exhaust system? For more power? Or just more noise? :) Does the stocker come with an integral spark arrestor? Mine did.

Anyway, enjoy it and welcome aboard, from one newb to another!

Nydirtbike 01-05-2015 07:12 PM

the bike as is has not much pull.
i do a lot of trail rides in the catskill so speed isn't my thing.
Exhaust would be great but i can't find a after market that will fit. Any suggestion?
Beside the shorter gearing you think i will gain some good torque?
Happy for all the help everyone is giving me

Weldangrind 01-06-2015 12:39 AM

You'll fully utilize the torque that engine makes with a lower ratio.

Spud likes the FMF Turbine Core II for a slip-on muffler.

Nydirtbike 01-18-2015 03:18 PM

hey guys update .So replaced the 14 tooth sprocket with a 12.
noticed a difference in lowed which i wanted. Any other things i can do to increase power?

culcune 01-18-2015 04:14 PM

Carb change--Weldangrind could link you to the place on Ebay that sells Chinese-made Mikuni carbs which he likes because of the ease in which to find and change the jets. I think the carbs are under $40.

I believe other things are to use a K&N air filter, and figure out which exhaust can be slightly modified for your bike--both would require jet changes.

There is not much to do with the actual engine. While they are 'Honda-like' they do not seem to accept internal performance parts adapted from Hondas. I would stick with sprocket changes (change the rear, too), carb, air filter, and exhaust (although that would involve modifications).

Weldangrind 01-18-2015 05:56 PM

I suspect that the bike already has a Mikuni. As requested before, please show us a close-up shot of the engine.

Nope, not a Mikuni. Here's one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/30MM-MIKUNI-...ab812e&vxp=mtr

Nydirtbike 01-19-2015 09:12 PM

hey culcune so with a 12 tooth sprocket in front now what size rear should i got with.
i currently have a 38 tooth?

culcune 01-20-2015 06:14 PM

See how the 12 works for you before worrying about the rear. I was surprised it came with a 37 to begin with. Many of the enduros were the opposite of your off-road bike, and came with 14 front and 56 rears making them run maxed out at like 50 mph when 55 to 60 mph was more desirable for the road. I would guess, with a 12 front, a mid-40 would be what you want for off-road.

FYI there are no external adjustments on the PZ30 other than Idle air screw. Also the carb bowl screws have no heads I had to grind slots so I could use a Flat tip screw driver, to get the bowl off to clean the carb. The top cap also had a rivet that had to be drilled so i could remove it. I have a Mikuni on the way.

Welcome!

I've removed several PZ30's, but I've never seen one like that. Not even a pilot mixture screw on the underside?

Gr8rcher 01-22-2015 09:06 AM

It is capped, no external adjustment at all. Kind of pissed me off This is supposed to be an advanced bike and they took away the ability to adjust for riding condition. O well I got mine for a song used.

Weldangrind 01-22-2015 11:36 AM

You'll love the Mikuni.

Gr8rcher 01-22-2015 11:41 AM

What Manufactures use Mikuni?

Weldangrind 01-22-2015 11:45 AM

In Japan, most of the big four have used Mikuni at some point. In the dirt bike world, Honda gravitated towards Keihin and Yamaha towards Mikuni.

I've even seen references to Mikuni on HD.

Gr8rcher 01-22-2015 11:49 AM

Good, there is a Yamaha Dealership a block away from my house.

Weldangrind 01-23-2015 12:49 AM

If the local Yamaha dealership doesn't have the jets you need, they can likely order them.

Nydirtbike 01-24-2015 10:32 AM

How hard is it to jet the carb ? I'm pretty mechanicle good.

bogieboy 01-24-2015 11:57 AM

welcome from a fellow upstater..... where abouts you at? I'm over in clifton springs....between roc and syracuse....

Nydirtbike 01-24-2015 12:54 PM

It could be tough to find slow jets for that carb. A 30mm Mikuni is much easier. Here's one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Carburetor-A...c1c85d&vxp=mtr

Nydirtbike 01-28-2015 10:06 PM

hey weld

where can i find the replacement jets for the 30mm mikuni carb.

i ordered the carb but want to up the jets like you recommended.

110 main and should i do 30 0r 25

Weldangrind 01-29-2015 06:44 PM

The slow jet choice depends on your specific bike and your elevation. With a stock pipe near sea level, I'd stick with a 25. With a free-flowing muffler, try a 30. Whatever your bike needs to start quickly and idle smoothly.

Another way to look at it is if the pilot mixture screw needs to be backed out more that two full turns, your slow jet is too small.

Remove the slow jet and main jet from your carb and then hit www.jetsrus.com. Compare the jets from your Mikuni to the jets in the pictures, and ensure that the measurements match. Once you've found a match, you'll learn what the numerical designation is for your jets, and which point you can shop at www.jetsrus.com or eBay.

Gr8rcher 01-31-2015 08:15 PM

Mine came with a 20 and a 100. Needle has not been touched starts with a quick bump of the starter or 1 -2 kicks, I'm leaving mine like it is for now.

Nydirtbike 01-31-2015 08:48 PM

hey Gr8rcher

hows the bike run now ever since the valves were adjusted and the new carb?

Gr8rcher 01-31-2015 09:41 PM

Couldn't be happier

Weldangrind 02-01-2015 12:32 PM

Awesome! I'm glad that worked out for you. You'll now have the ability to change jets if you make changes to the intake and exhaust.

culcune 02-01-2015 05:38 PM

Have you ordered/installed the front sprockets?

Nydirtbike 02-02-2015 05:29 PM

i did install a new front sprocket. i went with a 12 tooth
the original one was a 14 tooth. Big difference it bottom end
