My entrant for the 'Worst Looking Motorcycle' compitition.

http://rideapart.com/2014/04/news-jo...fastest-snail/

I hope it's got a great personality...

Weldangrind 04-15-2014 11:44 AM

It looks straight out of I, Robot.

FastDoc 04-15-2014 01:54 PM

Good movie.

SpudRider 04-15-2014 11:16 PM

Egads! :wtf: Indeed, that is the ugliest 'motorcycle' I have ever seen!

:hehe:

putting the instruments in the mirrors is probably a mistake. if the handlebars were lower, it would remind me more strongly of the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NSU_Delphin_III with a stripped fairing of course. but at that price it is a toy for people with way too much money.

FastDoc 04-16-2014 12:53 PM

...and no sense of aesthetics..

Yeah snail is the right word to describe its looks, what the hell is that finish they've used there? 1930's....... Junkers JU52 springs to mind! (but a bit less angular)

I like the Delphin though, it looks like it could be a bit of a mare in a crosswind. Could look at the Merc and Auto Union all day..... beautiful. I made some of that rather boxy looking FW23 :D

zingshoen 04-17-2014 06:36 AM

yes, those silver arrows...but ideally on 50cc...

why don t they build more of these instead ?

and then for the salt flats:

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datei:...garre.JPG#file

they won titles in the 50s and a world champ of the 125s got killed on sth like this:

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datei:...nnFox.JPG#file

125 cc, 80 kg and a top speed of 180 km/h!

Jibberwobble 04-17-2014 08:00 AM

Very interesting. Loving the kreidler Ziggare! I should do a minimoto version of that! Think the uk record is nearly 90mph on a 50cc (single gear)

This tin snail thing sounds great though, everlasting battery pack and all! I've found the inspiration for the styling too

Even a hot babe can't make the 'Snail' look good. :hehe:

Even with an abysmal range of only 124 miles, my butt, thighs, back, and knees would be killing me with those atrocious ergonomics!

FastDoc 04-17-2014 03:06 PM

She looks good but machine still looks bad!

Daeouse 04-17-2014 05:06 PM

It makes me slightly ill for some reason. . .

FastDoc 04-17-2014 05:10 PM

Don't like escargot?

Weldangrind 04-17-2014 11:04 PM

Feel free to bash me, but I find this bike to be interesting. I really like the art deco style, and this bike seems to fall into that category for me. I'm not happy about the mirrors, but the body is intriguing.

It reminds me of the old art deco locomotives:

Or the 1934 Chrysler Airflow:

SpudRider 04-17-2014 11:17 PM

I never appreciated Art Deco. The 1934 Chrysler Airflo is okay, but I hate 'the snail.' ;)

zingshoen 04-18-2014 05:44 AM

Beautiful car, Weld!

Streamlining is the word! But it is of no concern for dual sport riders!

As far as the snail goes, the feelers are too much. Poor design choice IMHO. They should have kept closer to that "Streamliner" look and won over a few retro lovers, get product placement in the next james bond etc.

But then, who is the target market for this? The top 0.1 percent of income earners in Northern Europe, say 150000 people or so, but not all are going to ride a mc. so they probably aim at a production run of 5000 bikes and market it to those "elites" who think they are "high tech". I suspect a few North Americans will get one too, in the bigger cities, where that thing doesn t get laughed off the street but means "hey i m european, electric and i was dear", like an expensive watch or pushbike.

in australia, no one is going to bother to import it.

Weldangrind 04-18-2014 11:40 AM

I agree, it's not likely to sell well.

I'm not saying I like the bike specifically, but I appreciate art deco styling, and that's what this bike seems to be going for. I can't deny that I'm intrigued by the lines and the shape. Maybe there's a tortured artist inside me somewhere.

Some other examples of my line of thinking:

The Chrysler and Empire State buildings in NYC where I'm from are both examples of Art Deco styling I like very much but I wouldn't ride either one on a Sunday morning ;-)

Weldangrind 04-18-2014 11:51 AM

Mrs. Weldangrind hates it. She says it looks like a mechanical bull.

katoranger 04-18-2014 12:11 PM

I like Art Deco to a point. Mostly buildings. The snail is ugly.

Weldangrind 04-19-2014 01:05 AM

I agree. I never said the snail was appealing, only that it intrigues me.

FastDoc 04-19-2014 11:44 AM

Car wrecks on the highway are intriguing...

2LZ 04-25-2014 10:48 AM

Aerodynamically, it looks like she's riding it backwards at a very unsafe speed! I hope she has a sharp eye on the rear (front) view mirrors!

Jibberwobble 01-05-2015 07:53 AM

AH HA found the original concept

Stumbled across this 'Majestic' French bike the other day with a sidecar attached to it and thought of this thread.

After a quick scout around the internet discovered loads of other references of people comparing the two...................

Weldangrind 01-05-2015 10:57 AM

Wow, I've never seen a bike like that. Very interesting.
