Motorcycle Insurance Companies.

This is just info on where you can get coverage.

I have progressive for $75/year. I believe they used Lifan for model.

I know that Geico insures these bikes also.

Please post what Insurance you have for what model. This should help those shopping for insurance.

I will add it to the list here at the top.

I have Progressive as well. (76.00/year)

Im in Texas and bought the insurance on-line.

They did not have the Roketa DB-05 in the system, So it's listed on my card as a Roket- Import Motorcycle.

IronFist 06-09-2008 12:03 AM

Jevco/ Home for chrome. $404.00 Canadian.

jwe 07-18-2008 01:44 PM

Just called progressive, $75 a year, $100 deductible with collision. :)

ambassador 07-20-2008 09:44 PM

Geico, $68 bucks a year for basic comp and collision, no deductable because the bike was under $1000 dollars...

gyjoe 07-20-2008 11:26 PM

American Family liability only. $30 per year for the Lifan, $37 for the Honda.

CoolWhip2Go 09-30-2008 07:40 PM

I use Allstate. $160/year for FULL COVERAGE.

panamarandy 09-30-2008 08:32 PM

I have progressive, $135.00 year, full coverage including towing.

Jim 09-30-2008 09:57 PM

ICBC full year approx $375, basically no coverage.

DDG1976 10-01-2008 05:01 AM

I've got Gieco, kinda fibbed a little, told them it was a pleasure use only bike and I wouldn't be riding more than 25 miles a week. That was in June, I now have 2500 miles on it. $99 for the year.

katoranger 10-01-2008 07:42 AM

I do alot of "pleasure riding" too. Just happens to be the same riding to work.

I think this has come up before. If an insurance company has trouble finding your make of bike, Ask them if "Other" is on the list. Thats where a bike like ours fits.

katoranger 03-06-2011 04:11 PM

I priced both geico and progressive online for the elite. $99 Geico and $95 progressive for basic coverage.

Seems high. I don't have any tickets or accidents.

Weldangrind 03-06-2011 11:27 PM

Is that for six months?

katoranger 03-07-2011 08:17 AM

For a year. I just notice that includes comp and collision. On a $300 scooter. 8O

Weldangrind 03-07-2011 10:48 PM

Compared to the rates where I live, that's free.

rickieh 04-23-2013 10:33 PM

Mine was $165 a year through an independent progressive firm. but i added extra under insured motorist and extra medical payments for safety reasons.

keith217 06-13-2013 11:42 AM

Nice. I didn't know that you could get the bike insured under other. The rates seem a lot better than the sportbikes I've had experience with in the past.

sportriderrr 10-16-2013 03:05 PM

These prices are pretty legit!

Ichrisbot 10-19-2015 04:16 PM

Just wanted to throw in another piece of data for Progressive Insurance. Purchased the basic coverage for $75 per year, I used the Zongshen ZS-200GY since it was the closest in their list.

I also called about getting my actual bike (Hawk 250) listed on the insurance but won't know if this is successful or not until tomorrow, or is this even necessary? I just worry about getting pulled over and my bike make/model doesn't match what's listed on the insurance card.

sevndaythry 11-01-2015 09:01 AM

Did you ever get a response from them?

Ron B 03-14-2016 06:54 PM

No MSO but I did get it insured through State Farm for $11 a month

kohburn 05-24-2016 08:36 AM

tried geico for the TT250 but they wanted too much $$ - adding comprehensive with a 500$ deductible was 95$ per year (or 170 total). All I was really worried about was theft coverage. they wanted over 330 for both the TT and my versys.

Nationwide gave me the same coverage for just over 200

MrClean67 01-07-2017 01:38 PM

Insurance companies.

Back in October, I purchased a new Pitster Pro LXR 250F. I knew that being from NJ, getting it registered was going to be a hassle but had no idea that getting insurance on the bike was going to be so difficult. I contacted SIX different insurance companies and ALL six said that they'd have to get back to me because they'd have to research the bike because it wasn't in their computer system. Three responded that they couldn't provide me insurance while the other three said they could. When I spoke with representatives from the companies that said they could (Rider, Allstate and I forget the third!), I asked them how they came to their decision and all three said that they manually entered the bike manufacturer in their system. Sure didn't sound too difficult! All three companies quoted me the same price, $80/yr with minimal coverage. I've never had an accident or a ticket in over thirty years of driving/riding.
Regarding registration, NJ goes by a list of "Approved Motorcycle Manufacturers" and since Pitster Pro is not on there, I was denied at two different DMV offices in two different counties. I wound up having to go the South Dakota route but at least I'm registered and insured.

pistolclass 01-07-2017 06:51 PM

I went the vt route with my hawk cuz ct can be hit or miss with the DMV. Although if you get stopped with the ND plates your tin should help with that.

Emerikol 01-09-2017 05:50 AM

Funnily enough, I have the renewal info from Progressive right here on my desk. I have roughly 20 years of riding experience, and the missus has none. She's going to get her permit this week, and her full license once she feels comfortable on her new bike. Here is the rundown of what I pay in insurance for our two-wheeled therapy devices:

2015 Suzuki DR650: Full Coverage with $250 deductable - $139/yr
1987 Honda Rebel 250: Liability Only - $41/yr
2016 RPS Hawk: Liability Only - 48/yr
2013 Suzuki TU250X (Mrs. Emerikol's Bike): Full Coverage w/$250 Ded - $75/yr

The difference in full coverage versus liability for the Missus' bike was less than $25. We figured it made sense for her to have the full coverage since she's a new rider. There is a note on the DR650, so full coverage insurance is required. However, since I have that bike set up as my long distance machine I'll probably keep the full coverage on it after I'm done paying on it. The other three bikes are all owned outright. Hope this helps shed some light on the insurance quandaries with China Bikes.

IMPORT_CIRCUS 01-10-2017 03:38 PM

I have GEICO, 99/yr

Popcycle 03-08-2017 09:39 PM

CSC RX3 in San Antonio with Esurance

Esurance had to use a "workaround" because VIN didn't pull up anything. Manually entered and approved the next day. No real hassle. :)

rx41761 03-15-2017 10:06 AM

All i have is 2 scooters 50cc Taotao. Grinnell mutual in Iowa. Liability only 72 year for both.

jct842 03-15-2017 01:27 PM

For full coverage, comp $250/collision$500 I have paid $100 for a year.. This is on a klx250 '09 and I am in Arkansas.

Those who do not list their state their information is meaningless.

kirbo7106 03-17-2017 01:46 PM

Geico

Happy St. Patty's Day!
I have GEICO, live in the Tampa Bay Area of Florida, just liability is running me $99 per year, but I got a $1.00 discount for a rider safety course and a $1.00 discount for being a "Mature" driver! That's the nice way of calling someone OLD! Oh why you are soooo mature!

jct842 03-17-2017 02:21 PM

It would be really nice some day to come across some sort of guide to insurance costs. And which companies are better to deal with. different states and even cities are all different.

In Ar. $70 to $80 will buy liability for a crotch rocket as of a few years back! My company will not insure them. It would also be nice to learn which of the many styles of bike are the least expensive as well as if there is a difference in brands. And most important is what your agent will not insure.

BlinGCS 08-31-2017 11:02 PM

I might get a Hawk, but I have something kinda weird going on with my insurance. I currently have a policy with Geico for my scooter, and so I tried getting a quote for the Hawk. It said that they had to email me back with the quote. On the email, it said that said "Based on your current policy, we are unable to offer coverage for the
2017 HAOSEN HAWK 250 in your state." My state is NC. Anyone heard of this before? Is it just because of my policy or did they just stop insuring those in NC for some reason?

Wigwam Jones 09-01-2017 08:23 AM

You guys are lucky you don't live in Michigan. We have a mandatory medical fund that all must pay into. It's set by law per vehicle, car or motorcycle same. It varies every year. This year it is $170 per vehicle.

"All insured Michigan drivers are required to pay Michigan's Catastrophic Claims Association fee. The fee is unique to Michigan and ensures all insured drivers will have unlimited medical coverage when injured in a car accident. The only insured vehicles not required to have the MCCA fee are vehicles in storage with comprehensive coverage only listed on the policy."

That $170 is the starting point. I'm in the lowest risk category, so the cheapest possible insurance. $325 per bike per year. And believe me, I've shopped around.

A person you may recall from AK SKiZo was injured in a motorcycle accident in MI. This law is helping him out greatly. He lost a leg and is going thru rehab. The post in the subscriber section so you will not be able to see it.

I also have a friend here in MI who lost a leg in a motorcycle accident. I agree that Michigan 's unlimited medical coverage is good for those injured. Unfortunately, the cost per person in huge. I have three cars, two motorcycles. I'm paying through the nose.

Hawkward Files 01-29-2019 03:29 PM

Got mine through State Farm $1 a month collision only, no uninsured motorist. That's what dropped the price losing that. Who needs it the bike is only 1k and I have Obama forced insurance so I'm covered there anyhow. So yea pretty much a China Policy on my China bike HAHAHAHA. I live in B.F.E. and wont see the city much anyhow And I doubt cactus counts as an uninsured motorist.

That mandatory fee will be $220 per vehicle starting july, its 197 right now. I'm going to start shopping for my storm that's on its way, but it's going to be around $300 minimum with no collision or comp. My other bike was $320 i think for liability coverage but its a 1300cc so its more. Probably $650+ tags to ride these damn things 4-5 months a year lol. Almost as bad as a boat...

Maadcat 05-24-2019 08:19 PM

I just insured my Hawk 250 in West Michigan for $20/month for PL/PD no medical rider with State Farm. I have multiple vehicles, home, and a clean record. Total fees at the SOS for tax, title, plate was $120.

Not bad, your actual insurance rate is only $43 for the year when you remove the mcca fee.

My Honda is with progressive, soon as I get the storm Vin I'll be interested to see how it varies between them. Hopefully they offer a multi bike discount.
