Welcome to the board...I enjoyed the vid however do disagree with the backhanded jab at the RX3....I'm sure the x300 is a good bike but I remain steadfast in my belief that the "majors" are still unable to match the RX3 in value at the same price and that opinion doesn't include my distaste for slick haired dealers.

I finally saw an X-300 in the flesh, at a Maine dealer. The bike looks much larger than what a 300cc bike brings to mind. In fact, it approaches KLR size from 20 feet away. Yes, it's a nicely put together machine. At the same time, it comes without much of the stuff that is standard on the RX3 so making an apples to apples comparison is tough. Personally, I like the Zong just fine and am happy with the way I have mine farkled. If I built up a X-300 it could easily end up costing twice what the RX3 cost. The RX3 just gives me much more room to customize without breaking the bank.

There's an interesting effect with motorbikes whereby you can never really tell much about one until you actually see it. The Ninjas 300, ZX-6R, and ZX-10R are all surprisingly small, the KLR and Versys are absolutely enormous. The X-300 is a surprisingly hefty looking bike considering the relatively small donk.

I recall being shocked the first time I saw a VStrom DL650. It was a 2011 model and I'd seen plenty of photos, but I wasn't aware of just how big it is.

With all options about $7500 before tt&l, not bad if your not a pure off road hound

Mayebe this isn't "news" or old at best, but I noticed that SpudRider has gotten the Versys 300. As involved as he was here (I know I learned a LOT from him) I'd love to hear his comparison.

I agree, Spud's feedback would be great. No reason to abandon the forum because you bought a different bike. Pop in and say high, be neighborly. :-) It has me wondering if the top end rebuild and valve issues finally pushed Spud over the edge to the X-300. Now that the Ninja 400 is out I would wait to see if that makes it to the Versys X.

It would be interesting to hear from Spud, especially since he was the Grand Poo-bah of the Cult of the Zong and had a great relationship with CSC.
That said, Spud was not afraid of venturing out beyond CB's. He had a few Japanese bikes also.
I'd imagine that he's not been here because he's probably been doing an entire catalog of valuable information on the 300 site like he's done here. Just a guess though.
Spud is about the most gracious person I've ever met on a forum. If something distasteful happened that sent him packing from the Zong World, I would never expect him to utter single negative word about it.

I still poke at you guys even though i don't have a cb. I don't visit much either but still enjoy hearing from some of you idoits

People move on but don't necessarily mean anything by it.

2LZ 04-25-2018 03:58 PM

Is it me or is it funny when someone call us idiots but spells it idoits? LOL!
Hope you're enjoying your new ride, BB!

I don't think I could ever leave this place. It's the friendliest bike place on the internet.

I went to look at the Versys 300 this weekend just to see it and sit on it. The dealer didn't have one on the floor but said they had one in the back they would wheel out. It was a new grey 2017 . I about fainted when I saw the price tag on it of $3495. Wozzers I almost came close to buying it. rj

Wow! That's $2K below MSRP. Makes me wonder what the OTD price might be. Recently I saw some very attractive ads for the Moto Guzzi Stornello. A call to the dealer brought out the hidden $1500 dealer add on fees. So much for a good deal.

Wow, that is a fantastic price. I probably would have bought it for that money. You look at a used one on CL and they still want retail for them.

Could this actually be a reflection of the impact the RX3 has made on the market?
My first thought is "I doubt it" but I have a feeling that all of these small cc ADV bikes entering the market may have been caused by the market that the RX3 has found.
Stranger things have happened.
