Good score! If you lay out the old cover as a template, you'll get a sense of how much you'll need for one seat.

Is it a major reno? Feel free to start a thread on it. I'm sure that several of us would be interested.

Well in between painting at sanding I found some time to do it lol
Not much progress shots but here it is.

The old cover on new piece to cut a chunk off. I used about a quarter of the piece

Here's the finnished product. Turned out WAY better then I expected for a first attempt ever lol

That's all for now.

I don't have all the pics on my phone of the Reno. But maybe once I get more done. I'll get them all put together and I'll start a thread :)

That looks much better.

Weldangrind 02-01-2015 07:53 PM

Much better, indeed!

You might be able to minimize the wrinkles with a heat gun or hair dryer.

The next time you try that job, but with a plastic seat base, you'll be able to make it perfect. Metal is much harder.

I have a steamer. Was thinking of maybe steaming it. But also don't want to ruin the fine job I have done without lol

Small update. I've rejetted the bike with a random jet I had in a spare carb.
Thought it was running way to lean. Would idle ok but not rev. Switched petcock to "on" instead of "res" woke this little baby right up seems to be running much better. Plug came out looking good to. With old lawn mower muffler I was running a drilled jet who knows what size. And plug was always black and constantly fouling.

I'll have to clean out tank and petcock I think so "res" works again.
I've also had issues with petcocks as mentioned earlier in the thread.
The carb I don't think us sealing anymore as the bike has pissed out close to 2 tanks of gas in my shed before I figured it out.

Had this inline fuel switch and had an idea lol

I think this will do for now lol

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...C3161F9919.jpg

I also started on the front fender some more

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...645EDB298B.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...1C8E279359.jpg

It's had many more coats now. I'll update thread once it's back on the bike

I also did a compression test on this bike. Was able to kick an impressive almost 180 psi out of her.

I always thought rings were shot on this bike and oil was the culprit to the black plugs. Maybe not. Time will tell

Also going to be doing an icbc vin search on this bike ;)

Haileys pw has been dropped off at a friends to get training wheels finished up

Dual inline petcocks work well. Did you use Krylon Fusion to spray paint the fender?

No it's just cheep Walmart store brand stuff. Had it sitting on the shelf. Figured why not. See how long it lasts lol

Dave

SpudRider 02-16-2015 12:50 AM

Why not?

Weldangrind 02-16-2015 11:39 AM

If the paint doesn't meet your needs, it'll come off easily with some brake fluid. Krylon Fusion is cheap at Walmart.

Nice job on the fender.

Once you clean out the stock petcock, it'll probably run great. Maybe the black is simply from an overly-rich condition. 180psi is impressive.

Dave_D 02-16-2015 11:50 PM

Here it is dry and ready for install

That bike looks better every time I see it.

Dave_D 06-06-2015 10:26 AM

Long time no post. So much has been happening.
This bike is now sold :(

But I replaced it with a 2002 xr100r I picked up for 350 bucks
It looks rough but mechanically it's mint. I've had to do some work to it already to make it safe. Bearings brakes ect. I'll post pics soon
Jess likes it better then her old 80

Here's the for sale ad I stumbled across. (I hate when sellers don't post a price) so I went in low...real low lol 200 he said he wanted 500 we slowly worked up to 350 and I scooped it.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...4BE96D4ACD.png

Here it is at home

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...C2DF997625.jpg

And after some work has been done. It's got a better looking rear fender on it now. Still needs side plastics. Front fender is damaged and trimmed down.
I'm keeping my eye out for a set of plastics. Maire is about 350 so maybe on a little while I go new.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...1AAF158536.jpg

That's all for now

Thanks

Dave

It appears that crf70 plastics are a direct swap.
So I've ordered
A new front fender (aparantly slightly smaller but swaps)
Rear fender (aparantly needs slight mod)
And side covers (aparantly direct swap)

So I found all this on eBay for 40 bucks
The tank shrouds I think are still ok so I didn't bother. Pretty sure the different anyways

Honda wanted 600 for a set of plastics. And Marie was 300 before shipping.

So hopefully for 40 bucks I can make it look new.

If they work and I pull it off I'll be into this bike for
615 dollars and it'll be mint :)

Dave
