:?: Hi, new to forum but already have a question. Just bought this scooter from lady who bought it in Alberta and brought it home to Ontario. Only has 340 km on it. She said it only had kick start but owners manual shows electric start and bike has starter button on handlebar. Company brochure says bike comes with electric start. This all seems very odd. How do I identify an electric starter motor on this scooter and see if it is actually hooked up.
Thanks

Welcome!
If it's what I'm visualizing, the starter motor is a cylinder shape, and it is on top of the engine, behind and to the left of the carb. You should be able to see it without removing bodywork, if you get down to floor level on the left side.
Also, there should be a large gauge wire from the battery that goes to the solenoid; from the solenoid, the wire travels to the starter.

Weld is pretty close on the starter. The battery should be under the floor mat. You need to squeze one of the brake levers and then press the start button for the starter to work too.
Likely it has it electric start, but one of the components is not working or she didn't know how to operate it.
Starter sits just ahead of rear wheel toward top of engine.

Thanks,
It certainly looks like there is a starter motor sitting there. I guess I'll have to start tracing back to determine why it's not working.

If the battery is good I would suspect the starter solenoid.
Should look like this.

Will be mounted to the frame on the back right side above the exhaust.
Before you go replacing anything check all the connections.
If you don't have one go out and get a digital voltmeter. You will need it. The $20 or less models will be just fine. I bought one at harbor freight for $3.
If you jump the to big terminals on the solenoid and it starts then that is likely your problem.
I replace one on a scooter with less than a 100km on it. They can fail. Doc had a new one that didn't work out of the box.
